PC Peripherals Dell U2311 doubt

Hi Guys,
After reading reviews and looking through the threads I have decided to go for a Dell 2311 IPS monitor. Two questions
1. This monitor does not have a hdmi port. How much of a disadvantage it is while watching 1080p movies. Mostly I have mkv rips :p of say 10 to 12Gb each on an average.
2. What about dell service in delhi. I will probably buy it from SMC if they have it in stock ?
Also I will be buying a few more stuff
1. A 1 TB internal disk. I am veering towards hitachi simply because their disks are better.
2. An external 1TB/500GB. Suggestions please.
3. An UPS. I am planning for the budget APC 650VA. Any other suggestions welcome.
4. I need a power cord for my computer. Lost mine. IS there any branded stuff I need to take or normal ones would do. I do not want to fry my machine.
5. Some sata cables :p
All this once I get my next months sal. Another 11 days :mad:
p.s
1. Will a guy who is not too much into heavy duty graphics work or a high end photographer still notice the diff between the dell and other 24 inch led panels by benq , lg etc in vogue.
2. Will there be any ghosting in fps games. That is a strict no for me.
A long mail. Thanks for reading and please do give the inputs.

1. It has a DVI port and a Display Port. There is absolutely no difference in the IQ between either of these ports.

2. Dell honors service using the service tag/serial number with the relevant invoice. You will have to contact them using the toll free number and they'd guide you further. The defective component is picked up from your location by the courier service (generally Gati/Blue Dart) and theys end it to Dell. Dell sends you the replacement similarly.

1. OK. FYI WD has acquired Hitachi recently. Seagate and WD drives are certainly reliable. Look into the service options available in your locality and decide.

2. Externally powered or USB powered? Budget?

3. Budget?

4. Any normal power cord available at the computer peripherals shop would do. They would generally be priced around the 70~100 Rs mark.

5. No comments.

1. Depends on your visual impairment perhaps? this is very subejctive. The differences between an IPS/SPVA panel and the TN panels are pretty much obvious to the normal human eye.

2. On the Dell U2311? It has a pretty decent response time. I doubt if you could notice any. Someone who's actually using an IPS display (more specifically this panel) can comment.

@Op

All the reviews I have read regarding U2311H, ghosting effect is not faced by anyone during fps games. It is an excellent monitor and pawns all other panels at that price point. Alos, I contacted SMC and they said they are out of stock and U2311H will arrive again after 10 days. So, it will be just the right timing for you I guess(As you get salary on the 11th day :p)

Thanks gannu..
1. No I do not want powered drives. Only usb drives preferrably supporting usb 3.0.
2. Budget for UPS. Ideally not more than 3k. But if you think there are exceptional models which are more costly do still let me know.
3. WD service is atrocious. Many members in TE have already suffered at their hands. I doubt WD.

@simforgotten...Thanks a lot of stuff to buy. Painfull wait. I hope smc will have the monitor next month.

I use a DVI connection even though my monitor has an HDMI port. No difference.

The TN to IPS shift is definitely noticeable, even to a non graphics/photography professional like me.

Ghosting is something that depends on the user. Some users seem to notice it more than others. That said, all reviews say that my monitor has a higher response time than the U2311 and I don't notice any ghosting.

1. the ports does not make any difference.

1. there will be a huge difference. and after using the IPS panel if you see the TN panel again it will be like crap :p

2. no ghosting. mostly I play fps games only and there is no ghosting at all.

@All,

Thanks for all the replies. Just adding on to this thread. I am looking at buying a keyboard and mouse as well. Moderate gaming and the usual stuff.
Was looking at the razer cyclosa + abyssus mouse bundle. Do you think it is okay for the price. Are there any other options available. In this case I am putting 60% on performance and 40% on looks (important). Budget is upto 2500.

@All...Soory for the quick question. I am going to buy the Dell 23 inch tomorrow.n case I do not get that monitor I plan to buy something else. Just tell me which would be second best. Please read the thread for my requirements. Basically any 24 inch monitor belo 15k.
Thanks

p.s I cannot wait so come what may I am buying the monitor tomorrow even if te may be the world's worst TN monitor :p

I think it is a big risk. If the customs dude decide not to release it not even GOD can get it past em. SMC just confirmed the u2311 is not in stock :(

--- Updated Post - Automerged ---

I just now saw the newly launched VW series of monitors from Benq. Basically VA panels. I hope someone in Nehru place stocks that up. :eek:hyeah:

@All,

Thanks for all your help. Finally got the Dell u2311H, mx 518, logitech basic k120kb, seagate go flex 1 Tb, apc 600va and 2gb kingston ddr 2. Did not wait for the salary to come :p so had to pay 2% more to the cost.
