I have the same system. Got it for a flat 30000 post bargains. Good speakers, decent sub. Only one optical input and 2 Coax . Straight analog multichannel input is there as well.

A very very very basic reciever but works well enough for a household due to sheer ease of use.

Additionally 2 ->1 completely useless HDMI pass through ports unless you hove age old panel with only one HDMI input and are in dire need to connect 2 HDMI devices to that panel.

^WTF? 30K? That's a decent price for an entry level AVR that offers HDMI inputs and the 5.1 system. I think I should bite this deal! sarang, was it from a local dealer in Pune? Shall ping you sometime later with the details. Thanx much!

@Gannu: Yup local dealer. I repeat gannu HDMI Video pass thru no decoding. And the AVR though specs wise basic is no slouch in terms of amplification. I have my DX/AC3Filter to handle whatever fancy audio standards we are thrown at.

HDMI passthrough - that sucks. Thought of hooking up the PS3 to the AVR thru HDMI so that I can drive the display off the AVR + the sound. The Xonar DX has an optical out - thought I might hook that up as well. Seems this wont work.

Heck, we're getting milked cos of the HDMI passthru shit in AVRs. :(

What would be the price of the cheapest AVR which could decode the audio off the HDMI?

@Gannu: Yeah that $ucks. But I think we're sailing the same boat here. So lemme tell you what I am gonna do.

1. Try the stereo male to 2 RCA connector n see if the xonar DX can output in Coax over the combo connector. See these review specs here ASUS Xonar DX Sound Card Review - Slim, Sexy Xonar - 3D Graphics, Audio & HDTV by ExtremeTech

2. If it works then I'll stick to coax for movies/games. And line out for music (background stuff for the living room). I liked the Xonar's ASIO output better than the noname DAC in the Denon.

3. Use the optical input for the PS2 (PS3 whenever i'll get one). (BTW I am back to GoW 1 on PS2 an enjoying it once again).

4. If step 1 does not work then I'll order a TOSLink switch. Impact Acoustics Digital Audio Explorer Toslink Selector Switch AV selector - Black

BTW the most VFM HDMI reciever in indian markets has to be the Marantz SR4003 @ 27K.
