Graphic Cards Diagnostic tool for 9800pro rendering pipelines?

Chand

Beginner
Well, I had purchased a second hand 9800pro from this forum - turned out to be a bad deal as the card became next to useless in just about 2 months of usage.

It gives a corrupt screen right from bios.
With XP loaded half of the screen to the left is clear, while the other half is corrupt at 1024 - 32 bit resolution. With other resolutions, the entire screen is corrupt.

I flashed the card with lower frequency settings - as low as 104core/104mem but the problem still persists.

My feeling is that one or more rendering pipelines have failed.

Is there a tool that allows testing of the rendering pipelines and disable ones that aren't functioning properly?

ATI tool is the software.
Looks like the card is dead, if its under warranty RMA it, otherwise sell it to Deejay for a scrap price ( he loves collecting faulty items ;) )

PS post a screenshot if you can.

What brand card is it? When was it purchased? This looks like a standard 9800 pro failure problem. Get the card RMA'ed. Even my card did the same... sent it back to ATI and got a brand new card.

Well there was something wrong with the R350/360 core which caused it to die prematurely. It wasn't heat cos mine had a vga silencer slapped on it. It was something else and god knows what it was LOL.

@storm: absolutely true... haven't seen a single 9700 pro die :P.

Well now you have heard one Chaos :P

My card died some time back. Was a 9700np, same core anyway. Actually it was flashed to a 9700pro. All i could do was to give it to a friend who collects such stuff. Eventually was found in 2 pieces in his room. RIP.

Raghu.

Dude!!! You're scaring me! :O 9800 pro dying! OMG! :O What do I do??? I just bought a 9800 pro! :S What do I do???

@raghu. flashing the 9700 to 9700pro i have seen my friends card also die after giving arifacts. even though it is the same core i am sure the power & volt requirements will be somewhat diff & running a 9700np at 9700pro for 2-3 years might be causing it to die.

My 9800pro died a couple of weeks ago.

Was pretty weird. I was using the comp, everything was fine. I shutdown.

On starting up a few hours later I got the no display card 3 beep thing. I figured it was a contact problem. But it wasn't. The cards over a year old, got it from US, so outta warranty now.

According to the people who are repairing my card, an IC has stopped working and they're trying to get a replacement :/. Credible?

Thanks for your response guys!

I purchased this card somewhere in dec 2005 from Sammy(Godless) - he didn't mentions me the date he had purchased this card but said its still under warranty.
Its an Ati Radeon 9800pro 128 Mb card - with the box mentioning 3 years limited warranty.

I had requested for RMA but this is the reply I got.

I don't know how to respond to this as I don’t know the exact date of purchase.

Day before, I cleaned the heat sink - removed all of the old thermal compound and got good display for half a minute or so.....
I'll be trying artic silver - might be a localized heating problem!
I'm currently in Mahim, what would be the nearest place where I can get
Artic silver???

I am really sorry especially coz i don't know about RMA!!

Did this happen after you removed the old thermal paste or before that??

But, what did you put after you removed all your old thermal paste??:S

weird that so many 9800pros have died... mine is going strong without any problems for 2 years now :) . ive even flashed it to a xt and still no problem.. good for me though, cause i would have to send it all the way to the US if it dies..

^^ Mine has been giving some power issues, ie the power connector on the card has gone extremely loose etc. Apart from that its doing fine. And I hope it does fine for atleast 6 more mths...

The 20 rupees thermal paste that u get. But I'm not sure its up to the task!

I tried RTHDRIBL, but it hangs as soon as I start it, same with ATI tool - guess both require directx options enabled - in my case DirectDraw, Direc3D, AgpAcceleration are all disabled!

Any other tool that could be used in this situation?

Try the card on a diff comp with a better PSU. f it does not get proper power feed, it starts acting weird, I was getting garbled display every alternate time I use to start the PC, thought the card was overheating, but later found out the floppy connector to my card had become extremly loose.

Even my 9800pro died the same way. Display corruption everywhere including the bios screen.

Deejay will buy it you say?

Yeah Deejay will buy at scrap price, PM him he may be intrested.
