Budget 10-15K Difference between 'phone' and 'note'

I don't use mobile phones much, so bear with me if this is a dumb question:
I used to think that the main point of distinction between a phone and a note is the screen size, with the term "note" used for those with 5.5" or larger displays. But most phones and notes now seem to come with 6-6.5" displays. Yet manufacturers still categorize their products into "normal" phones and notes.

I'm guessing that the distinction is now in less obvious features other than physical size. Could someone please explain?

Your guess is right. Around 5 years back the average screen size was 5.5 inches. So most phones of 6 inch and above were called Note series or even phablet.
Today the average screen size is 6.5 inches and so manufacturers now use Note to distinguish their higher series with better screen resolution, better processor and so on.
Eg. Redmi 10, Redmi Note 10.
