Storage Solutions Disc not writable error on MoserBaer Lite-on DH-20A4P

I'm facing this weird problem with my MoserBaer Lite-On DH-20A4P DVD-writer,This started when my friend gave me some blank DVD's to write some movies,now when I insert Blank DVD in nero it pushes it back saying that disc is not writable,same happened with the remaining 4 DVD's gave by him.I thought my writer went Kaput and tried burning the same brand DVD's that I had,they are burning correctly :huh:
Now when I took those non-working DVD's to a friend who had some Sony 20x Sata writer,all are working and all were burnt succesfully.
What could be the problem??
Also is any firmware upgrade for my writer(MoserBaer DH-20A4P) available??
 
I'm guessing the blank DVDs your friend gave you weren't of a reputed brand?

Some writers might exhibit this behaviour with low quality media.



Restart your PC, install a different CD/DVD writing software(remove Nero first) and try again with the discs he gave you...

Also my other question are there any firmware upgrades available for it??
 
Thanks man I guess its media prob,incidentally I came over the same link you sent me yesterday but I ignored it :)

Moser Baer support site is crappy,I found an update there,Downloaded it only to see that firmware archive is password locked WTF:huh:

So followed the instructions in that hacking to lite-on link and changed mine to Lite-on Firmware :ohyeah:.

CD-Burner Xp is very nice,much much light on resources than Nero,but I have a doubt,is burn quality dependent on burning software??,in this case my doubt is is Nero better than CD burner Xp in terms of Burn quality??
