Equipment or Bakra : 4 year old defunct HP 1020 plus
Tools of the Trade : A philips magnetic, Philip long shaft , a flat-head long shaft, Noose plier, normal plier, Kerosene, cloth, Wd 40 can, Tooth brush (hard bristle, a 1.5 inch paint brush.
Skill Level: Average to Advance. Depends how badly you want to conk the already dud stuff.
Here we go:
Have always been a DIY guy, be it fiddling with car engines or tech gadget, have overhauled couple of car engines in past. So guess it proves how desperate I am to open things and blow them apart or sometime fix them in the process.
After Dear Dr. Frank Mehta send me a Samsung ML1640, this HP was pretty neglected at the corner. I thought i would give it to somebody as a parts donor because 4 years is pretty long for any IT equipment. This was showing its sign of age, not pulling paper, patches of ink on edges etc.
Also HP recently is trying very hardly to shoo its faithful customer away. Locking cartridges, refill locking, low print yield, quality issues, warranty issue, you name it.
But i can assure you these 4th generation HP laser (namely 1020 etc) that takes 12A toner was build quite well.
Today i returned early from work, and believe me its extreme cold in here this year, I had nothing to do, so decided to open it up and have a look. To my surprise, printer was pretty intact, loct of dust and muck on the gears was preventing the paper to be pulled correctly. And a worn out teflon roller was the suspect for the patch and improper prints. Called one of my boys to get the new teflon and "Waalla" Rs.250, half a liter of kerosene plus 2 hours the printer is back in action.
Enjoy

No printer was killed in doing this project. Half a liter of non renewable petroleum product, i.e. kerosene was wasted in this process. So Sunita Narain (yeah that crazy Coca Cola pesticide lady) can sue me, if she likes.
