DIY Neon flex light name sign

A few days back, it was my nephew's naming ceremony and as we Maharashitrians do, there is a small part of that ceremony where there's a name reveal. Usually the name signs are made out of flowers or thermocol sheets, but I thought I'd give it a try with these neon lights which we see everywhere now in weddings or parties.

I had only one night in hand to make this sign. I did not want to spend much because it was going to be on display for only one evening. I couldn't document it properly but have some photos to give you a rough idea of how it went. It took me some 4 hours to complete this sign, and it came out pretty well for the time spent on it.

I was going to use transparent acrylic sheet but as time was limited I thought the mesh would give me an advantage and wouldn't need drilling or anything for soldering the wires and keeping the light in shape. I created this design using Corel Draw and added some dimensions so I could replicate it on the mesh. I tied the neon with very thin and small white zip locks. There are cutting marks on the neon from where you can cut and solder the wires to it. Basic soldering knowledge is enough and that's what I am working with. Then I connected them in parallel to the 9v adapter which came with the neon light. One thing to note is that you can make curved shapes easily with this light but straight lines are difficult to achieve as the light comes in a spiral shape in packaging and that is the default shape it has retained.

Here’s a link to the light which I bought from Amazon for 745 RS at the time, which is on sale right now for 625 RS and comes with a 9V adapter.

One thing which I wanted to change was the wires which I used were very thick, which added some difficulties in managing and hiding them properly; the second is that I wanted to add more artificial creepers or grass panels, but I was limited with the materials at that time.

In the end, I am left with a good 8ft neon flex light.

With enough time, you can create a very professional looking neon sign with these. Please give it a try. Any questions are welcome.
