Do I need a mesh network?

Yes I can confirm on my X50-POEs.

3 decos wired to switch - it works.

Main deco wired, one of the other decos disconnected and wireless - it also works as well. You can set manually which other deco it should connect to.

With another router behind the decos, we don't want double NAT so all the decos have to be in AP mode.
So just to be clear, if I setup a deco (main deco) in AP mode & connect it via ethernet to my non-deco router then I connect a secondary deco (setup in AP mode) to main deco via wireless & then further connect a 3rd deco to secondary deco similarly via wireless then a device connected to main deco will seamlessly switchover to secondary & 3rd deco wifi while moving around.

Also, how much did you get the X50 PoE for & whether any PoE capable switch work for such setup or are there some specific requirements.

Yes it would work in the setup you mention, as expected - a mesh with handover, as well as guest and iot networks.

No restriction on which POE switch would work afaik, just check the total POE output supply, or use an injector (why?) or the included adapter with its jack.

My 3-pack cost me 24k (amazon link) after waiting for a discounted price.
