Do We really need reservations?

A view.

On 14th June 2006 Maharashtra CET results came out. Now the government and all other parties are taunting the socially backward class needs reservation. But how true is that??
Do they really need reservations? Are these classes really hampered off resources and can’t perform?
I downloaded the merit list and spent some time and compiled the number of students of different classes.
Here is the fact sheet of top 10000 students in merit list of CET for medical entrance.

OBC : 2375 students
SBC : 2366 students
SC : 922 students
NT1 : 163 students
NT2 : 264 students
NT3 : 280 students
VJ : 158 students

Total Reserved Category students : 6527
Open Category students : 3473

------------------------------------------------------

Now lets talk about cream brainpower. Top 1000 students.

OBC : 216 students
SBC : 213 students
SC : 23 students
NT1 : 9 students
NT2 : 12 students
NT3 : 31 students
VJ : 6 students

Total Reserved Category students : 510
Open Category students : 490
Even in case of top 1000 students these reserved class students are comfortably able to compete against open class students.
This throws out governments claim that these students lack in resources and needs to be given special reservation. In fact from the numbers open category students actually need some sort of help.
How ironic??

Please note that these numbers are applicable for maharashtra state.

All we can do is keep probing and hope for the best.

Well...pretty soon we will have the open category as the minority quota in colleges...and the ppl from minority category will be considered as the open category...all thanks to our beloved Arjun Singh.

i saw the merit list myself yesterday along with my friend and we were both shocked at the no. of obc's actually in the merit list!!!!

darn hmm its time i took out and made use of my obc certi
