Do X-Ray Scanners affect electronic devices?

any kind of EM pulses can affect electronics. you'd have seen this in a lot of movies as well. but those electronics are generally in working condition, i.e., some amount of current is passing through them. EM pulses can definitely affect the flow of current.

however, your electronics are safe in x-ray scanners as they emit very low radiation. otherwise, those tiny cameras would've caused small explosions all over the world (abnormal current flow + li-on batteries). now, i am not sure but this could be the reason that security personal at airports ask you to switch off your electronics before putting them in scanner. or maybe because a working device and can interfere with x-rays and project a different/false image (Edit: image on the scanner).

as pointed out in the link you posted, you can notice the effect of EM pulses on volatile memories... as that's how they are flashed/programmed.

Isn't there a tray beside the scanner where you put in your electronics and other metallic stuff like keychains before passing through the scanner?

my two mobiles pass through x-ray scanners every day at metro stations. i keep then in my bag turned on.
even the security personnel never objected to it.

Are no, I am talking about scanners in companies. There you don't have a box. I keep my stuff like my iPod and TAB inside my bag and put the bag through the scanner. Hence i asked.
