Graphic Cards Does is make sense to replace 7600GS with 8600GT/GS?

I have an XFX 7600GS graphics card. Runs fine, but with the advent of DX10 cards like 8600 series, does it make sense to replace teh 7600GS with 8600GT/8600GS (if at all it exists) ? Will there be any remarkable performance difference? AFAIK 8600 series will not require custom/extra coolers (7600GS runs on stock cooling too). Please enlighten

there is not much difference between 7600GT and 8600GT.

Now there will be some noticeable difference between your GS and 8600GT/GTS.

But it all boils down to your requirement.

8600GTS is waste of money. Its just fractionally faster than 8600GT and GT can match GTS easily with mild ocing.

But dont buy these cards expecting a lot from them. They are mainstream cards with decent performance and great feature set as far as entertainment features goes.

Some 8600GT are HDCP ready and offer much better hardware acceleration for those HD videos compared to 7xxx series and even 8800 cards.

just woke up, checked my eyes to confirm what u had written :bleh:

@DCEite, he meant the 8600GTS and yes, 8600GT is about 1.5 times fater then the GS but in DX9 codepath, will it be able to handle DX10 gmaes as smoothly as the 7600GS handles DX9, no

Well not if you can wait a bit.

X1900XTX is still a damn good card. Will play everything u throw at it nicely.

If you can wait you might wanna skip the 8800 lineup and wait for the refresh to arrive.

DX10 titles are a while away and there still no clarity how much better these GPUs can run DX10 mode and if it will be playable in the end.

Couple of month later we will have much clear idea.

8800 GTS is probably best price/performance out there now.

hd2900 series are out at $400+. If you're wanting a mid-range card you can wait for the rest of the HD2xxx series.
