Can any one please tell me how to download large files from ftp servers?
are they as fast as http downloads?
can we download games and other stuff from ftp servers?
download managers are either very slow or don't work at all.

use flashget or any other d/l manager. using the default d/l manager of your browser will give you very poor speeds (thats what i have experienced)

Well i use mass downloader.using it for the past 1 year....IMO evry d'load maager can do FTP d'loads.

If u want a stand alone client cuteFTP is good enough.

when d/l linux distros via ftp, i get around 30KBps , which is just about the max my connection can do.

i use flashget. and as kumar pointed out, cuteftp is very good if you dont want many advanced options

flashget is working great,thank you for that,well one problem,usually ftp sites are contain IP adresses ,thats fine with flashget but what about sites like
MOD EDIT: LINK REMOVED

these donot have ip's when I try to download from them I get an error in jet1
'cannot resolve host name'.
help!

@sndpgr

Use the Site Explorer option in Flashget. Dont enter the shortcut in Flashget itself. I entered the ftp address in Site Explorer and got the following message :

some ftp r protected. usually ftps r faster than http and u can use normal accelerators like DAP or flashget...(idm being the best) to dload files from ftp servers.if many ppl r dloading from a single ftp, then speed is affected.

u mean 30 KIlo BYTES? per /sec?btw yea it depends on the opposite side as well..showknows ur downloading from a server on dialup :bleh:
