wireless home network

i've just bought some d-link stuff in the hopes of setting up a network or wireless network at home with my laptop. if it can be done wirelessly awesome, if not, i'll settle for a cable right now.

have the d-link 10/100 fast ethernet switch (model: DES-1008D) and the d-link AirPlus Xtreme G+ 2.4GHz wireless access point (model: DWL-2000AP+).

I'm using winXP and get the wireless to be recognized on the laptop but cannot access the internet, any suggestions please???

thanks in advance :)

i dont know how is ur AP's configuration option looks like. I think you need to set your AP into router mode and set SSID stuffs.

decide u want DHCP or static. at last . remember to mention DNS server in ur laptop TCP/IP settings even you are going for DHCP.

come here with more details.

its an access point. It can NOT be a router..

if you have a dsl router connect the cable from dsl to switch. Also connect the access point and desktop to the switch.

You haven't mentioned how u are connected to the internet.. LAN wire or ADSL Modem? If its ADSL then proceed as Varkey has mentioned.. After that its just a matter of entering the IP settings for each device..
