The config is pretty nice :) But I still didn't get the idea of providing Enterprise Linux to Students :S They could have opted for Ubuntu or Mandriav or openSUSE :D

May be they know already that everyone is going to use the 'ahem' version of another OS :P

Here we are, running tests on the s/w and h/w tests.. and these guys WALK on it and call that a test.. thats the ONLY frigging test they show!! WTH?! They expect laptop users to stand on it all day?? :|

That was actually one of the most appropriate tests

I don't think i need to explain the reason why

here's a hint:

For 99.9% of the people, a couple of seconds + or - on super-Pi or 3dmark makes absolutely zero difference

The fact that it is a T5670 with 1 GB of RAM makes it good enough for the majority's needs

More importantly though, the fact that the damn thing can withstand real life abuse (drops, or crunched inside a suitcase/backpack without taking damage)makes a huge difference (which is what the test in the link was trying to simulate without ELCOT having to spend a million $ on an abuse simulator

damn, thats HARD CORE load testing , and TBH, what might be on the minds of a lot of people. they dont care if its fast, but if it can tolerate abuse :P

EDIT : superczar beat me to the point :P

vinchu!!!

there was some trouble with their contract process man.

seems the local dealers started to make a hue and cry the last time they had this scheme.

afaik it was for lenovo lappies then.. they were selling them for 10-12k lower than the mrp. nd the local dealers went up in arms.

ever since then elcot decided to omit any mentions of the companies in official press releases etc.

ps- just coz its an acer does not mean that it can withstand a 90kg fello standing on it. brands also have their own differentiating quality factors. some might be well built others might not. the same brand might have well built as well as crappy BQ stuff

^^ ah yeah remember reading that..

@Superczar: would you recommend this over .. oh i dont know.. an XPS1210? ;-)

It's a good config and worth the price

Having said that, a 15.4" machine does not really remain a laptop in my book, and I wouldn't take it...

For most first time buyers though, it fits the bill quite well
