EU Commission proposes removing chargers from all smartphone boxes

If such and similar standards start getting implemented we might end in the loop going back to landlines..
What might follow next is remove this that etc.

Wondering when optical components will be used as standard for data transmission, together with metal cables if needed.

Intel shelved the idea duing initial days of Thunderbolt ports which would've rather helped a lot years later.

Meh.. .most have moved to usb-c anyways. For the ones using old or proprietary stuff, well, they no longer have an excuse not to upgrade.

There is no port less thing here. There is going to be one charging port, one charging speed and no charger in the box. Apple can do port less in future because cable with an Apple device is already a joke. I hope Android don't follow suit. Android manufactures are notorious for following only nonsense from Apple and nothing good. Removing charger and headphone jack? Check. Implementing air drop? What?

India can also implement this change if the leaders in the government are upto it.
if their son's/in-laws have stakes in any of the companies mentioned then assume it to be implemented on par with EU :D

On another note, also think of Apple and their proprietary lightening connector for which they receive royalty for every connector made by third party. Apple has tons of money but they will not go for standard like type c which is not in their control.

So basically we pay extra when upgrading phones to buy their proprietary chargers?

Afaik, the fast charging technology used is different for each brand. Hence, a One Plus charger will not fast charge a Samsung or Redmi phone.

The exact opposite is happening in Brazil. Apple has been fined for not including chargers. Brazil says the package is incomplete.

Why is govt getting involved here?

EU's on a roll!!!
There's even a term for these.

Brussels effect

No, it's not exactly opposite. The regulators in Brazil carried out a study which basically invalidated Apple's claim that removing chargers from box (while not deducting the price of omitted charger from the cost of phone) will help save the environment. The study found that nearly all iPhone buyers ended up buying the charger separately. The regulator is pushing for Apple to provide an option for consumers to have chargers shipped with the phone or to make it optional and if Apple does so then it should accordingly reduce the price of phone.

India is way ahead of the game :p
There is an SC ruling on this from 7 years ago, to discourage mfrs in India to stop selling chargers with phones

The case is much older (it was against Nokia so you can guess when it was started)
