Want to have external DVD Writer so what will be the total cost of LGH42N and good external 5.25" casing? moreover my comp has USB 1.0 port so will newer external casing support USB 1.0?

H42N is around 17k and casing will cost u more than 600 depending on brand.

Better get a USB 2.0 PCI card. Otherwise, you wont even be able to burn at 2.4X speed.

u mean 1.7k na?;)
so it will support USB1.0 even though burning speed will be slow.that means USB 2.0 is backward compatible to USB 1.0.

Yes, USB 2.0 is backward compatible with USB 1.0, but why do want to connect it externally ? It might result in several coasters with the external drive.

oops. i did mean 1.7k :D

Yep. Burning at USB 1.0 speeds will mean a lot of interruptions because of the poor data transfer rate and the disc burn quality will be very poor, if it finishes burning at all.

got a laptop with combo drive so thats why wanted external drive. But if it will lead to various problems as u both say then will connect it internally.thanks to both of u for ur guidance. :)
