It is no news that Samsung is already working on their next flagship smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S4. As we get closer and closer to an imminent release, more and more details on the next monster flagship trickle out. Including that of a quad-core ARM Cortex A15 chipset running at 2 GHz.
Exynos 5540 Quad Core SOC
Samsung debuted their first (and world's first commercial) Cortex A15 based chipset, the Exynos Dual 5250 with the Google Chromebook and Nexus 10 tablet. Featuring two ARM Cortex A15 based CPUs and the ARM Mali T604 GPU (4 core), the Exynos 5250 rocked benchmarks and traded blows with quad core CPUs such as the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro too! The GPU is another monster altogether, falling behind only to the iPad 3 (and 4)'s PowerVR SGX544 MP4 GPU (and Apple iPhone 5's faster but tri core PowerVR GX544 MP3+ GPU). The chipset powers a 2560x1600 resolution display, that should give enough information on it's brute strength.
Now take that chipset, double it and add some more. You get the Exynos 5540 quad core SOC. Here are some salient features:
As you can see, we simply have a beast waiting to leap on all other smartphones and tear them apart. The CPU will get 2 more cores, and a clock boost upto 2 GHz. The Mali GPU by ARM will feature double the number of cores as it's T604 model. To achieve all this, Samsung will most likely debut the new chipset on a smaller 28 nm manufacturing process (their current being 32 nm).
If all this is true, we have the Galaxy Beast 4 coming to eat up competition alive in the coming months.
