Hey Guys,I'm posting this because I'm confused what to do now, because my warranty just got over a few days back, and the card works fine but Idles at around 70 degrees that my load temp :scared14:,so I'm on onboard now,so should i go for warranty or try to fix it from a shop or myself?i think going to fix it from warranty is good plan though, but is there a better way to fix since i live kinda far from the center.

Another 4870 bites the dust..... Sorry man, it happened to you... My graphic card also screwed up a few days ago.... If I were you, I would just buy a new card... or at least take the card to the Palit center to see what they can do with it.... let other members pitch in too...

Unscrew the bit that holds the fan onto the heatsink, mount a regular 80mm fan on the card and use it, check temps to see if you need a better fan.

I don't suppose it is a big deal. Just pop back the impeller into the casing and the stator will hold it just fine. If you weren't aware, some fans (DC motors more specifically) have the impeller held purely due to the electromagnetic suspension from the stator and impeller. My netbook has a centrifugal fan and I could remove the impeller by simply pulling it out with almost no force. Shove it back into the casing and it begins to spin. Give it a try! And let us know if it spins.

Thanks for the tips, but there seems to be a small spring(its in the fan in the picture),I'm not sure if its connected to the fan or the bearing,Do you know where its connected?,i tried just putting the fan on but it does work it seems to be loose, but its very hard to even mount the fan with the spring on the bearing since the magnet on the fan keeps on pulling it.

Are you sure i should do that ,i guess ill keep it as a last resort ,the cooler is attached completely i will have to remove everything and I'm not sure i will be able to mount the 80 mm fans without some modding .

I did notice that spring but I am not sure where it fits inside the fan. Sorry about that. Does the impeller spin properly at the highest speed? Set the speed to maximum from ATI's Catalyst Control Center and give it a try.

The last resort might be to unscrew the entire fan shroud from the heatsink and use some cable ties to hold a 120mm fan or two 80 mm fans to the sink. This will be far more effective than the OEM fans. That's a guarantee. The only disadvantage here being you may not be able to power it from the GPU's power connector (because both power connector terminals are different) so you cannot set the speed using the CCC.

If putting fan in it's place does not work, you can try this ghetto method:
-Remove the shroud.
-Attach external fan using tags/ties.

Here is pic for reference:

Me and many TE members have done this small mod to their cards. I have attached that 120mm fan on my 8800GTX for better cooling. Yes, it performs better than stock(Reference design). Yours is not a reference design, performance improvement is what we are unsure of. Then again you can try attaching two fans to improve performance or single 120mm fan might perform better.

I dint try that, but i don't think it will work because of the spring, since i don't know exactly where it goes, putting the fan in without it causes the magnet to get stuck on the coils.

K i will try that ,I have a few 80mm fans with me ,will do it and see if it works,
Thanks for the help everyone,i have repped all.

maybe the spring is to maintain a specific distance between the fan and the stator so it does not make noise while spinning.

I too suggest you add a 120mm x1/80mm x2 fans over your stock cooler and try it out be careful while removing the stock fans and stuff. See there's no warranty left on the card so its not that much of a risk applying a custom fan. Now its your choice. I'd prefer a custom fan. Its not that difficult. Plus you have the fans. If it works out great then let it be if not then place the stock cooler/fans whatever back and try things with that. All in all No warranty No risk. :) and I don't think your card will burn instantly if your custom fan turns out to be a downer. Try the 80mm fans it'll help you out.

If nothing works out then there are many coolers/custom fans for GPU out there if you can spend some cash on them. Why no one suggested this to him?

i may be wrong but the spring might just fit to the hex nut like thing on the fan. then probably just press it in place on top of the motor...

Thanks for the help guys, I tried to fix the fan but I could not, at last I used some zip ties and put two 80 mm fans works like a charm
but my pc is dead the tagan psu died, and any give me opinions on which one should I buy I'm thinking of corsair tx750 v2 or gs700 or coolermaster gx750 any ideas
