Hi and i'm one of few people who got the xiaomi mi3 on 22nd.
i used miui on nexus 7 but not surprised compared to other custom roms.
okay here few a FAQ that would clear the minds of new miui user(im new too and still exploring)
1. Got the Phone but cant update to OTA because of slow server speed from Xioami?
2. Afraid of not removing the factory screen protector or while call, phone's capacitive button and hardware button doesn't make you end the call.
3. Should i root?
4. Sim tray is struck or cant open and is it mini sim?
im still exploring and if you found out any problem kindly post and i'll update in the main thread for new MI3 buyer.
Ps. any mistakes kindly point out. thanks.

1. Got the Phone but cant update to OTA because of slow server speed from Xioami?
Relax and try updating late night or early morning. it show 592Mb and later changes to 620Mb.
(once finished you see the ota in updater folder with the name "miui_MI3WGlobal_KXDMIBE18.0_6e904c6811_4.4")
2. Afraid of not removing the factory screen protector or while call, phone's capacitive button and hardware button doesn't make you end the call.
The factory screen protector is the culprit, it is interfering with the proximity sensor and the phone thinks that you are holding it near your ear. Although its gorilla glass 3 which is scratch resistant(its depends upon you whether you want to use with or without scracthguard). You have two thinks to do, buy third party screen guard that mactchs the phone or go to
thanks to @abracadabra for pointing it outPhone> Pull up the Menu (Choose settings) > Phone (Call Settings)> Answer (Incoming Call Setting)> Proximity Sensor (Turn it OFF)
3. Should i root?
It depends upon you, rooting gives admin privilege and use some root apps xposed framework which is essential framework to install tweak for day to day use like USSD blocker, Xprivacy, gravitybox and so on and device specific tweaks like Mitools for mi, G2/G3 tweaksbox for G2/G3, wanam xposed, sense 5 toolbox. think its like cydia for iphone.
thanks to @alekhkhanna for this instruction.Xiaomi has 2 ROMS - Stable (No root) and Dev (Root). Phones obviously comes with stable.
But you can root stable as well:
1) Install CWM as guided here: http://en.miui.com/thread-21241-1-1.html (basically download the file, put it in root, and flash via "Updater" app).
2) Download Chainfire's SU from http://download.chainfire.eu/451/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.01.zip , save to root of the device (or alternatively older 1.93: http://htcfanboys.com/download/rawdealer/?action=list&folder=8267 --this is what I used)
3) Boot into recovery (you can select from the menu of the "Updater" app).
4) Flash the SU Zip file (under emulated/0)
5) ??
6) Profit !
Any app requiring root will go through the SU app (so you'll need to grant permissions manually). Do note this will NOT show root permissions in the permission manager, so use Chainfire's SuperSU to manage individual permissions if needed.
Additional:
7) Get WSM tools from http://en.miui.com/thread-8784-1-1.html
8) Install and run. It will ask for installation of Xposed binaries. Grant SU permission (wait for the pop up) and let it install.
9) Reboot.
10) Load WSM again and search for "Mi-tools". Install. All in one verified package for Mi phones. Tweak to your hearts content !
11) ??
12) Double profit ! B)
4. Sim tray is struck or cant open and is it mini sim?
give some force its just tight. its regular sim and thought who use mini or nano sim use adapter or change to new sim.
