Infinite scrolling has been the bane of my existence. Most sites hide their 'contact us/ reach us' at their web footer, and its impossible to reach them to complain when you have an issue. So no thanks.

While I agree with the thoughts this can simply be avoided by a "Load more" button for posts. However, I have not seen a single forum where this feature is there. I think forums are meant to be the way they are i.e., paginated.
Isn't this easily addressed as the homepage will not have infinite scroll? The footer will always be available there in a static location. Wouldn't that work?
If you look at team-bhp forums, you can jump to the very bottom of the page and the footer remains accessible. From there if you scroll slightly up, the infinite scroll is triggered. Best of both worlds.
I'm also not convinced with your argument that inaccessibility of the footer to reach a couple pages that we rarely need (and have other ways to circumvent) is more important than a much faster method of navigation.
Again, going back to the same example, Team-bhp has paginated posts + infinite scroll, and it makes reading through (and finding) loads of information a breeze.
TE does have a variation of the "Load more" button on the 'What's new' page- though it refreshes the page everytime I click it, which sort of beats the purpose.
