Video Festive Season : Which 32" LCD TV ?

As simple as the topic goes, festive season and hence a reason/chance to buy it FINALLY. Always wanted to have one and just about can afford one now (on EMI's ofcourse) :ashamed:

Please recommend which LCD to go in for. More inclined to the Samsungs.
Bravia's are a tad more costlier than the others in the same range, but don't know if they are really worth the extra moolah spent. Totally confused.

Samsung soon going to launch good offer like Buy 1 get other 1 free (may be from selected products) but worth to wait for offers to showering. :D

Samsung already has its festival offer in place. Buy any 32 inch Samsung LCD TV and get a Samsung DVD player free.

See today's Times of India for details.

so many threads on TE. what-what to follow :( , this makes my 3000th post on TE too

Is in the same confusion with the techmind but not as experienced.. But then I can say this is the 3000th thread (post?) am " reading " on techenclave :p

Am confused between

Sony KLV 32S550A ( about 35- 36k , but HD ready) , ( Sony klv 32V550A is too costly for me .. about 42k.. full HD though)

Samsung LA32B530 ( 36k plus dvd player for free, also a full HD. )

( Am an EMI customer too)

I saw LG and it wasnt that good.

Will be watching the tv from about 8 feet.

signal input is primarily tatasky, and an occasionally from DVD player.

And if all goes well, ( after an year or so ) from a PS3.

I also want to know ,if the bravia engine 3 is really a huge deal breaker?

Also whats with the SMPA AMVA etc thingy and the possibility of finding the worst of these "thingy" in the 32 inch LCDs of samsung or sony ?

I hope i havent hacked this thread from the original poster. :)

Cheers!

Visit a showroom and check out both the TV's side by side, everyone keeps talking about the Bravia's BE3 engine but i spent close to 4hrs looking at them side by side playing SD content and I couldn't figure out any difference at all :ashamed: (was expecting the sony to be better since it only had to upscale to 720p and not 1080p)

The only Bravia I found worth was the W series.

About the panel, adder had posted info about recognizing the type of panel used in the Samsung in one of the other threads ... just make sure to avoid the CMO panel at all cost.

Everyone was talking about the BE3 engine being the best upscaler for SD content. So I went to the showroom thinking of getting the Sony bravia. Watched the Sony and samsung play SD and HD content side by side and found that samsung had deeper black than the sony. Also the texts were less pixellated around the edges in the samsung (Better anti-aliasing??) when compared to sony.

After fiddling around with the settings in both the TVs finally came to the conclusion that samsung had the edge.... at least to the eyes.

Had you been to Croma by any chance? In Croma you will always find Samsung better than Sony & LG.

wow now thats some unexpected replies...

So no point in going in for sony?

The dealer am buying from is going to deliver the piece directly.

So I doubt if I will be able to check the panel type before hand.

Also I watched Samsung, LG and sony , LA32B530 ,LG 32 80FR, KLV-32V550 side by side in a shop but with the signal input being the cable (not even tatasky..) and sony was the best amongst them. Amongst samsung and LG .. samsung was way better.

Saw a Sony BE3 engine (V or W not sure) against a Samsung 6 series (LED) running the same HD content (Sony's demo video). While the Samsung was showing just blobs of gray in shadow areas (like the recessed windows of buildings and doorways), the Sony was showing spectacular detail. All along, I've always wanted to buy a Samsung (fopr many reasons) but now I'm not so sure.

those who find sony expensive, its due to the taxes of around 35% since its a direct import. where as samsung and lg are assembled in india,so they get tax benfits only taxed at 5%.
u can always buy sony lcds in the grey market, where it sells like hot cakes always in ready stock and the highest selling brand in grey market.

u can get a sony 32S550A for 30k and 32V550 for 37k.some grey dealers also sell the KDL-32V5500 this has a built in DVB-T tuner, offcourse currently u only get DD ch.it also has a ethernet IN so that u can share photos,MP3,MPEG1,MPEG2,AVHD videos from ur computer.price is unknown.

Grey market is a big no no.

Also there has been a twist in the tale.
The dealer is ready to chop off 2k for an exchange of an old tv.

so the price is down to 40K for sony KLV 32V550A.
Lets see if I can leech some more discount from the dealer or atleast make him throw some freebies. Come on! Its diwali!!! ( Also his daughter is hawt ... :/ I cant really "bargain" in her presence in the shop.. am good at bargaining on the fone)

As my personal opinion LG shouldnt be used as a comparison standard at all.

Though I have not seen Panasonic TV personally my parents did and they were not happy.

I mean whats the point in getting a TV which will be watched by my parents most of the time and they wouldnt be liking it to begin with.

Also should I be worried about the SMVA SPVA stuff with sony?

well the panasonic lcds aren't realy that great, yes i would rate lg better then them.
about the sony, they don't use SMVA,but they do use AMVA and SPVA the 32S550A and V550A both use AMVA panels.which is about the same as SPVA overall.but unlike samsung where 2 customers buying the same model may get it with different panels.in the sony in a particular model u only get 1 panel.
