Firefox grows to 12.93% globally and nearly 16% in the United States
Firefox continues it’s upwards march in browser market share. According to research done by OneStat.com, the browser has been slowly but surely chipping away at Internet Explorer's market dominance around the globe.

The latest stats put Firefox's share of the global market at 12.93% while Internet Explorer commands 83.05%. Firefox actually gain 1.14% in comparison to May's figures. In the United State alone, Firefox share has risen to 15.82% while Internet Explorer rings in at 79.78%. Firefox is also showing to be quite popular in countries like Italy, Australia and Germany where it commands 20.41%, 24.23% and 39.02% respectively.

Microsoft's market dominating web browser is due for a major upgrade later this year which will bring it more in line with Firefox feature-wise. The Mozilla Foundation, however, isn't standing still as they are putting the finishing touches on Firefox 2.0 which adds such features as an integrated spell checker and session saving.

Firefox will never get ahead of IE simply coz of the fact that there are millions of people who dont know zilch abt apps and stuff....... they just abt get by browsing the internet.

My grandpa and aunt are of that category. And since IE comes bundled with XP, obviously these sort of people will not bother shifting to Firefox (provided they have heard of it )

^^ Good point nik.. But FireFox has always been considered as an ALTERNATE browser... With support from Google it has made some headways... Also on Linux platform it dominates..

I doubt whether any of us care for Firefox to exceed IE in usage. What is important is for Firefox, Opera and other standards compliant web browsers to hold a substantial share of users, such that web developers do not create IE only sites. A monopoly of a single product is never good.

not only does google support firefox you can now also get yahoo toolbar for firefox made by yahoo, so firefox is not only supported by google but also yahoo firefox is also installed by default in FC5 operating system, and its more secure, althou microsoft will be releasing IE 7 i had my hands on it and believe me it was even worse than IE 6, so i got rid of IE 7. i Prefer Firefox mainly due to its security and plug n play modules, also it has much more less bugs than IE. :hap2:

Firefox all the way. Good to see its gaining market, but like Nikhil said its almost impossible for Firefox to gain anywhere remotely close to IE. Since IE is the default thing in windows, people are just happy with it and don't even care if other types of browsers exist.
