Foxconn, which is one of the companies which manufactures Apple products is in the news.

After an investigation in its Yantai facility in the Shandong Province , Foxconn has admitted that they have been employing student interns as young as 14 in a Chinese factory.

Legal working age in China is 16 and investigation has found that Foxconn employed children who were under the age of 16. Employment right activists in China have accused Foxconn of employing young student interns for cheap in factories where it is difficult to get adult workers for lower-paid jobs.

The workers were found from the investigation were as young as 14, they were breaking not just Chinese labor laws but Foxconn's own policies also. Now Foxconn has said that they have corrected the issue and will take measures so that it never happens again.

Foxconn is the largest manufacturer of iDevices for Apple and makes products for Dell , Sony, HP among others. The Yantai factory under question was not making Apple products.

According to China Labor Watch, these underage employees were sent through and internship program from educational institutions who are primarily responsible , but Foxconn did not check their IDs so it is also culpable in this incident.

Cnet reports that these interns were told to make Apple accessories in order to receive academic credits. If they completed the work, they were given $244 per month, but were forced to work overtime if they didn't complete.
