So, after much reading and stuff my pal and I ending up on flattening out on the Galaxy 8600GT OC. Well, I din't go to take the card and he din't open the box when we were collecting the same from my dealer. Now :
On opening it up one prominante thing both of us notice is that the heatsink was very different.
The heatsink was something like this....
Galaxy GF 8600GT DDR2 << Product Details << GALAXY Technology
And from seeing a lot of reviews and stuff I knew that the OC model should have a heatsink like this ....
GeForce 8600GT << Product Details << GALAXY Technology

The box did blow up a sticker saying it was DDR3 , dint check on the gfx card though. Now, for some questions....

How can we know from windows if the gfx card is running ddr2 or ddr3 ?
Did the OC model stop having those kind of heatsinks ?

I'm sure my dealer hasnt manupulated anything here cause I do trust him. I doubt if there is anything fishy here is by the distributor from where he got the card.

So help me out guys. Guys who recently got the 8600gt oc like in the past week or so can post details / pics. Am at work so can't post the actual pic.

F5'in this thread for updates :)

^^^^That is the best way to know from windows whether you have recieved the right version or not, use atitool, or ntune or rivatuner, any of these to check the clocks.

first tell u if ur card has same heatsink as in that link i have given if not then pls change ur card ..

I think that Galaxy cards are distributed by two different distributors/resellers. Check out the BIG cards, they are exactly the same as the Galaxy cards.
And about the heatsink, see the small text next to the asterisk on the website ;)

Hi,

You can also use Everest Ultimate Edition to know all you wanna know about any hardware that is installed on your comp ;)

My cousin bought a new PC and supposedly it had Nvidia Geforce 5500. Its what was written when you check the properties of that card. I always check out what kinda processes are running in the background in case if I find any spyware. I noticed that there were a few processes running named "ati", and this is where I became suspicious.

I installed Everest Ultimate Edition and found out that the video card was a fake. It showed me that the name was Nnvidia Geforce FX 5500, but in reality it was a shitty ATI Radeon Mobility card. I took a printout of this and sent the card back and got a genuine one this time around :)

Am not saying that this might be the case in your situation, but just wanted to let you know what happened to me and that you can rely on Everest Ultimate Edition for all your hardware needs. It'll show you everything about everything, the processor, the system ram, motherboard, HDDs, CD/DVD Drives, etc, etc, and of course this will show you what kinda ram your vid card got ;)

Hope this helps :)
