Galaxy Note 2: Horrible Experience

I bought a Samsung Note 2 an year back. It worked great for an entire year, and suddenly 10 days after the expiration of warranty it stopped charging. Although, it was connecting me fine to the PC.

I took it to the service center, and they told me that they would have to change the charging port and would cost me Rs. 2000. I reluctantly said yes. The next day, i got a call from them telling me that my mother board has crashed and would now cost me Rs. 10000 to repair the device.

I took a running mobile to them, and what i got in return was a Rs. 10000 bill. I would advocate you all to purchase either mobiles from Sony or Apple, or go for the new guns like Gionee.. Samsung is really taking its customers for granted (as there were a lot of people like me complaining at the service center).

You Go for gionee, ull have to run to the service centre(do they even exist?) within days..

And Sony, the less we talk about the service, the better it is.. Apple and lg service is good..

@Anirudh786

The chinese brands and Indian branded chinese mobiles would be even worse. Stick to big guns if you want good quality product and hopefully better customer service.

You should have complained and threatened to take the service guys to court. The phone would be repaired in a much lesser value. Taking people for granted is a very common thing that's going around now a days.

I faced the same charging issue with my Note 2. But it happened within the warranty period and I got it fixed free of cost. You really should have taken the extended warranty as that would cover everything. You are angry over the fact that luck dealt you a poor hand with your phone conking off just days after the warranty expired. Nothing much you can do about that.

Your options are as follows -
a) Haggle with the Samsung service center people to somehow reduce the cost of the parts and repairs.
b) Pay up.
c) Ditch it all and get a cheaper new device.
d) Try and get it repaired by a third party.

You also say in your tirade that people should leave Samsung and go for Apple and Sony. Why? Do you think they will not charge you money for service and repair after your warranty has expired?

Apple was asking for 8k to replace the screen on an Iphone 4 after the warranty period. Got it done locally for 3.5k. All companies are same after the warranty is over. They charge you a bomb for service and parts.

Samsung's warranty service is shit as well. They (US warranty center and international warranty center) refused to deal with an internal memory corruption error on my Note 2 7 months after I bought the phone. It was a known problem. They refused to fix it via paid repair as well.

I once got this same problem with my Galaxy Nexus. At one point it completely stopped charging. This problem is indeed because of the microUSB port. After some searching, I found a fix recommended at different places, including the XDA forums. The reason for the problem is that the "tongue" (that little metal bar) in the middle of the microUSB port starts drooping down over time, and so the port stops working properly. So you have lift the tongue back up.

Here's how to do the fix: Turn off your phone and remove your battery. Get a flat-head screwdriver or something similar, put it under the "tongue" of the female microUSB port of your phone and gently push it up so that it's perfectly parallel to the floor of the port.

This solution worked perfectly for me, and it should probably work for you. :)

BTW, check Post #9 of this thread: http://forums.androidcentral.com/verizon-galaxy-nexus/144031-galaxy-nexus-not-charging.html. This is one of the places where I found this solution mentioned. As you can see, that post has a lot of likes and a lot of replies acknowledging that this method worked. So I recommend that you attempt this fix without fear and some deft hands. :)

I got my note 2 repaired for 150 bucks 5 months still working like a charm
Charging port issue is common problem in most of the Phones made by samsung
