Galaxy Pop rooting and custom rom query

My friend bought galaxy pop two weeks ago.
now he need to root for the need of apps
and he bored with stock rom

Any way please tell me step by step process:rofl:
don't tell me google it:no:

googling for 2 days there are different ways but still don't know what to do.

gingerbird/cyanmod?
i'm a n00b to rooting and installing custom rom
so please help me..

other thing is he got some issue with stock rom (gps doesn't connecting etc etc)
