PC Peripherals Getting a 200GB HDD Wednesday, which one?

TechHead

Leaning toward the Seagate 7200.8. PATA as of now, as I don't have SATA on my mobo.. is the 7200.8 available in Bombay? Been out of the loop for 2 months, so I have no idea. Approximate price?
ALso, I can get an IBM for nearly the same price AFAIK, should I?

Are there IDE drives in the T7K250 range? I thought it was strictly SATA II.

I just noticed that TechHead was looking for PATA drives so I deleted my post..... :)

I run a PATA Maxtor 250GB Maxline II Plus drive and it is pretty fast. It is an Enterprise class drive and has a 5 years warranty like the Seagates. The last time I checked the Hitchi's were with a 3 years warranty.

Over at the StorageReview forums they talk very highly about the Hitachi T7K250 drives. Not seen any complaints on these drives.

I would recommend going for the 300GB Seagate, its the 7200.8 series
I sold one a few days back and it is blazing fast.If you can push your budget a bit, then this drive is worth it.
It cost me something like 8-8.5k

Was the 300GB Seagate a PATA or SATA ?

Here is a comparison of 4 SATA drives .......

Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 400gb SATA drive,
Maxtor DiamondMax 10 250gb SATA drive,
Western Digital 74gb SATA drive
Hitachi Deskstar T7K250 SATA II drive.

WOW ...it just struck me - 300GB for around 8k... I paid 8k for a 250GB Maxtor PATA drive 5 months back ... at that time the 300GBs were about 11k !! :O
