Graphic Cards GFX Advice needed!

Hey guys,

I'll be upgrading my graphics card after 4 long years...was using Geforce 8500 and it seems high time to do so...i have been out of touch for a while now so kindly suggest a decent GFX Card for 10k (Can go up to 12k). I woud be needing the card basically for gaming and should support DX 11.Another thing i wanted to know is can i go for crossfire or SLI if buy two cards for 6k each.(need a suggestion in this case too).

Config is shown below.

AMD Phenom X2 550 BE
MSI 790GX-G65
Kingston 2GB DDR3
CoolerMaster 400W PSU.

First of all, don't even think of dual cards in that budget. Your PSU can only support upto an HD 6670 which is below 6K. Or you can get an HD6770+Seasonic S12II 520Watt PSU (both will be around 11K).

A single card always makes more sense rather than CF and SLI.

Okay I'm not sure which Cooler Master power supply you have currently, is it Real Power Pro OR eXtreme Pro, if it is eXtreme Pro then you need to set aside atleast ~3000/- for a decent SMPS for taking the load of a graphics card and still have a little muscle to spare --

Seasonic S12II 430W ~ 3000/- [bronze cerified power-supply, really well rated and a good buy]
Corsair CX 400W ~ 2600/- [80+ certified power-supply, a popular piece that has been phased out, if you find it GRAB it]
Corasair VX 450W ~ 3500/- [80+ certified power-supply, the first step for a real gaming level SMPS in my view]

Get a AMD HD 6850 / 6870 ~ 9500/- OR 11500/- [AMD is the value king in your budget, please get these cards over the cheaper nVidia offerings, namely the GTX 550Ti which gets beaten black-blue @price-point by the AMD HD 6850 --> Nvidia GeForce GTX 550 Ti 1GB Review | bit-tech.net / NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti 1GB Review]
Benches --
AMD HD 6850 vs. HD 6870 --> AnandTech - Bench - GPU11
AMD HD 6870 vs. nVidia GTX 560 Ti --> AnandTech - Bench - GPU11

If you can up the budget to around ~15000/- then get nVidia GTX 560 Ti ~13500/- + Corsair VX 550W ~ 4400/-.

Please put the idea of CrossFire-ing / SLi-ing cheap cards as the scaling and overall game performance will not justify the price and thermals generated by two [cheap] cards.

Hope this helps, Sire.

Get Sapphire 6850 for 9.5K + FSP Saga 500 for 2.3K = 11.8K ,as you mentioned budget is stretchable to 12K. If you dont want to invest in PSU, then 6850 or 6790 would be fine for running on your existing PSU.

Not necessarily, a AMD HD 6850 CrossFire brings a single nVidia GTX 580 to heel and keeps thermals and temperatures in check -- AnandTech - Bench - GPU11, but arguing on this factor is a non issue as this set-up is far beyond OP's current plan.

Sapphire 6850 for 9.5K + FSP Saga 500 for 2.3K = 11.8K is the best option...

Also increase ur RAM...

2GB is very low, + if u add a 2GB GPU, the RAM may bottle neck the GPU...

RAMs have become very cheap now...

U can get a 4GB chip for as low as 2k...
