Graphic Cards Ghosting on screen

Eazy

Forerunner
I have just noticed that the Mouse pointer and all Large Menu text against a white background is showing slight multiple Ghost images - there is one barely noticeable image alongside the Pointer/Text and then a few more which are a bit faint. My question is this problem likely to increase or will it stay at same level ? I cannot capture this image as the ghost images are not that prominent.... at least for now. :) This is only noticeable when I have the Mouse Pointer or Large text on a white background.

I suspect it is a Display Card problem - after all I am using a CHEAP BIG 7300GS card :) The Monitor is a Samsung LCD 740N.

I have tried moving the Monitor wires around with no difference. Also cleaned ther display card. The MoBo is A8N-E and the only other card in computer is an Audigy 2. This AMD setup is only one week old.

Is this slight Ghosting normal ?

EDIT: This does look like a faint version of Mouse Pointer Trails but it is not as prominent as the Trails and it shows even when the Mouse is not in motion. And NO I do not have Mouse Pointer Trails switched on :)

Whats the LCD specs?AFAIK LCDs have ghosting especially the lower end ones.

What I see is not motion ghosting but ghosting like what you see on TV's when you have an antenna out of alignment with a signal.

I already have Clear Type Tuning running.

Here is a picture that shows what my problem is - the Ghosting problem shown in the picture is more than what I see on my screen - what I see is quite faint in comparison to the picture... and I get multiple faint images. Irritating !!! :@

do u use VGA or DVI?

Samsung 740N has only VGA.... sadly I did not notice this problem with my last P4 setup which I had till 10 days back - only now I noticed this on my new AMD setup when I ran a white page in a Picture editor - it was noticeable alongside the Mouse Pointer. :(

I have never seen this type of problem in any of my setups.... I think it is the BIG display card's doing. I will try borrow another card and see if the problem goes away.

could be a gfx card driver issue? updated ur drivers?? mostly a gfx card issue
Running 84.21 - any know bugs in this driver ? Checked in forums and read good reports from users on these drivers.

Eazy... Try playing around with few monitor features... I am sure it is more related to the fine/sharp adjustments of the monitor then anything else...

Also you can chk the PC with a CRT and if you notice the same thing then most probably its the card/driver then anything else... But i am quite sure it is a tuing problem...

Now why did I not think about trying the CRT lying in my Attic :( OK will get it down and confirm if it the GFX card or the Monitor. THANKS !!! My bet is on the problem being with the BIG CRAPPY card :)

OK I think I found the reason for the ghosting... It is a BIG problem.... YUP the problem seems to be originating from the BIG card.

This card has a ribbon cable between the PCB and the VGA connector and I think this cable picks up EMI which shows up in these ghost images. When I move the cable around the ghost images change patterns - I have twisted it a bit and this reduced the ghosting to make it barely visible - I can live with what is now generated on screen.

dunno if this many work or blow up ur hardware (consult an experinced member before doing) maybe u can wrap a silver foil around the ribbon.

Can anyone confirm me if it will block the EMI?

^^make it a tin foil.

YUP .. I thought of that too .. but the ghosting is hardly visible any more so I dont think I want to risk having metal foils on this cable.... THANKS anyway for the suggestions.
