Need to buy some gifts before leaving India (possibly won't be able to come back in this life)
1. For nursing staff
2.junior doctors and residents
3. Wife ( please don't mention sarees, bought a bunch, can't sleep if she plans to wear saree in some social gathering)
4. A 5 year old kid.
Budget: nothing fixed and can extend if required.
 
what you can not easily get there (both offline & online) which can be helpful in day today life ...

And Bengali sweets might be already in your list :)
 
Maybe for the hospital staff you can have watches for them especially the ladies.
For the kid, depends on you in this case. If you want him to stay connected to Indian roots then you can get him a book "Discovery of India" by Pandit Nehru. While he might not read it today but surely when he is old enough.
