Update:
Jason Kincaid, author at MobileCrunch noted that the next Google Android 2.4 update would be called Ice Cream Sandwich. Well, Google VP for Engineering, Andy Rubin mentioned in passing at the launch of Google Nexus S last month.

Google loves naming Android updates after desserts. Back in October, Elizabeth Woyke of Forbes was informed by ARM President Tudor Brown that the Android 2.4 update would be named as Ice Cream. Now Pocket-lint has learned that the next Android update is dubbed Ice Cream and is due for arrival in June or July.

Google Android updates have always been named after a dessert: C-Cupcake (1.5), D-Donut (1.6), E-Eclair (2.0/2.1), F-Froyo (2.2) and H-Honeycomb (3.0). If the same order is followed then the next dessert with name starting with the letter I would be Ice Cream. At the Consumer Electronics Show 2011, Sony Ericsson's Xperia Arc handset was spotted running Android 2.4 update aka Ice Cream.

Usually, Google shows off its major Android update at the Google I/O Conference, and this year at Google IO in May we hope to see the Android 2.4 Ice Cream. However, till then, Google would be focusing on Android 2.3 Gingerbread for smartphones and Android 3.0 Honeycomb for tablets.
