Got a BSNL 3G sim...Some issues.. need Help

Just bought a BSNL 3G sim after all the hoopla surrounding the awesomeness of it. Used my spare Nokia c5 to get online. It struggles to open a simple google search page.

I paid total rs.145. with rs.105 for 3G FRC something that is for lifetime validity. Rs. 25 recharge :p and rest i think is tax.

1. How do I know 3G is active on my phone. (have received all the phone settings)
2. Why is the speed so low. Using it in my home town Lucknow right now. will it be same when i go back to gurgaon?
3. Do I need to do something more to get it activated or something?
4. Planning to get a modem as well if BSNL 3G works really. How do I go about it?

Any help will be great. Thanks in advance.
 
Set your phone to UMTS modem under network setting then you should see the 3G or 3.5G symbol that means you are getting the 3G signal.
 
^me too gets very less speed on speetest.net but on utorrent i get 390kB/s-400+kB/s...dont know why its not reflecting on speedtest :(
