Laptops Got a Toshiba Satellite L300, want to remove Vista and Install XP

I recently bought a toshiba satellite L100 laptop. It came preinstalled with windows vista which i dont want. How do i install XP on it.?
The lappy has a primary harddisk partition of 134gb and a secondary of 6.4GB.

Any help in this regard will be appreciated.

Hi rak_007 firstly congrats on the Purchase :clap: ,so u finally got the L300 ,good one mate and about taking out vista 64 bit and installing XP ,no mate i wouldn’t recommend you that ,let vista be there and I tried installing XP had many issues so left it with Vista 64 bit

and talking about resizing the partitions you can do it with the Recovery disk you got from Toshiba ,just boot from the disk i.e. by hitting C ( not sure ) and then reinstalling the OS ,while you are about to reinstall the OS you will get an option to resize the HDD ,go ahead and give 20GB as C drive ,let the OS install ,later go to disk management format the rest of the space ,I did have some difficulty doing it so I went ahead booted from a regular XP /Vista disk formatted the whole HDD then inserted the Recovery disk and gave the “C†drive size as 20GB and installed the OS and later I went to disk management and formatted the other Drive.
And when are u starting a GO :ohyeah:

but i need to have XP/98 on this machine since i need to run tally 7.2 and it does not work on vista. Is it possible for me to run windows 98 along with vista?

No idea about Running 98 i did see your post about Tally 7.2 on Vista ,wait for replies in that post and take a decision,and btb in that post mention that u ave 64 Bit OS and error messages

i suppose it is a bit less than 600 MB of download right ?. Also can someone tell me how will i use it. I mean how will the other os be installed and where will it reside ?. I think my vista is home premium but i havent got any CD from toshiba. I called their customer care here in Canada and they said this model does not come with a CD/DVD, instead there is a hidden partition from where i can create a recovery disk.

i have downloaded vmware and installed it. It was a 575 MB download. But i am not able to use it. Infact i dont know how to use it. Can somebody help

EDIT: I think i downloaded the wrong setup. I should have downloaded the workstation. Sorry for bothering. I also found a tutorial on the same.

STOP. You need to download Vmware Sever 2.0. Its the free version. The 575 Mb version is correct mate. You downloaded the correct setup. Pretty simple to configure and use. PM me for any help.

Vmware Workstation is Paid and doesnt really have that many extra features for normal use :P

1. The OS will be installed on a folder on your HDD that you select :)

2. There must be some utility installed in the program files to burn recovery discs from the partition given. Do that once and keep them safe :)

if we keep this virtualisation to the side for some time, plz tell me if it is possible for me to install xp over vista and have a dual boot at start up. As i said before i have another partition of 6 GB on which i can install XP. That would be more than enuf for me. Suggestion invited.

Google for it? :ashamed:

As far as I know, installing Xp over vista is a pain or impossible, please check. The way round is recommended usually ;)

Look, since only for tally, just use vmware. Once setup, its very easy to use. I use it all the time.

Once setup, its pretty simple. All he will need to know is how to start vmware, the start and stop buttons for the OS, AND the full screen command, thats it :)

The guide seems ok too if you want to go for a dualboot setup. But first, I would suggest saving the hassle and give vmware a shot ;) Once setup ,if you think its not worth it and is too much of a hassle, just delete/uninstall and setup the dual boot :)

@techie_007

Have you used it on vista? I have only used it on xp.

I read somewhere that vista has some issues with vmware not sure about it though

@rak007

As techie_007 already said give vmware a try it should work fine and if it still does not work out for you just get rid of it and install xp

but before you install xp make sure that you have all your drivers from toshiba's site The main problem these days installing xp on laptops is driver support.
