congrats for the new machine.

I am also looking forward for a new AMD machine for home use.

AMD X2 4000+ 65nm

GIGABYTE GA-MA69GM-S2H
hoping it is a good board with OCing
Motherboards with AMD Chipsets

2x1GB DDR2 800

i hope this is a good combo for home use surfing/music/video etc & little bit of gaming.

i look forward to your comments/ suggestions.
if possible look out for 7050pv from biostar..gigabyte mobo is good...but if u r a gamer..then go for biostar..it has shader model 3.0 support..gigabyte doesnt..so few of the games may not run on it.biostar shud cost u approx 3.8k..and gigabyte s2h shud b around 4.1k..

usually 7050 is not in stock...if not available...u can for the gigabyte s2h..it has good oc options...think..if u add a thousand more...u will get 8400gs/for approx 200 more u will get a 7100gs card..mobo will b a 690v based one..gigabyte...msi based 690v is approx 100 cheaper..but gigabyte produces some good mobos.and both these mobos lack oc options..with bios updates u can oc ..but no voltage adjustments available...so stability issues may arise...with no OC ...good mobos these.

Do we have a thread that talks about Bangalore shops, contact details and product availability? If not should we start one? the lamington road and nehru place threads are still around after all.

where are you getting the mobo for 5k ?? and transced ddr800 for 2.6k ? :O

Checkout the first post in the thread :)

"Transcend 1GB DDR2 800----1300"

The rate for the biostar I found on another board.

I have not verified any of these rates yet and hope to do so this weekend.

So here are some rates that metro quoted for the parts I needed.

1.8 GHZ E2160 / 800 /1 MB 3100
Biostar TP35D2-A7 4500
Transcend Value RAM 800 2x1 GB 2700
Samsung 19'' With DVI 9450
320 Gb generic harddisk 3350
Microsoft Wireless Desktop 1500

I forgot to verify whether these are with or without VAT. Will verify when I visit the shop and then get back.

BTW Anybody download games through Steam? I'm looking at Orangebox. Anybody play it yet?

@simph..

lots of ppl have been playing the Orange Box games.. look around in the Gaming subsection.. you'll find tons of info onthe Orange Box :)

Thanx Cricfan for the valuable suggestions.

The first option suggested by you
7050pv Mobo + 8400gs/ 7100gs but this Mobo is rarely available and does not has good reviews & GA-MA69GM-S2H seems to be better value for money with so many features. Moreover I am also not too keen on many games. Is it possible to get shader model 3.0 support by adding gfx card later on gigabyte s2h?

The other option 690V based gigabyte /msi. definitely both of them will be cheaper than s2h but both of them don't have as many features.

Also suggest me cheap psu+cabinet for the above & do I need extra fans for OCing.

I would also be initially getting a used 17"CRT for Rs1750. I have option of IBM GE74 or Goldstar 1727. which one?
thanx

sorry no idea abt monitors...i was suggesting 7050 for onboard gpu..if u plan to add a gpu.. then u can go for gigabyte board u suggested...it costs 1500 more than my board..but it has OC options...firewire..and 889alc as audio chip..whereas mine has alc 888..

think over...it depends on your requirements..since u r getting a lower clocked cpu..u may need oc options.

since u will b going for a lowend(7100/8400gs) gfx card..u can go for a lowend psu+ cabinet...i am using cheap zebronics psu and zebronics bijli as the cabinet...i have checked my cpu temp..idle at 37C in winXP..at 48 during load..cabinet looks stunning...if u plan to get high end gfx and OC...u can settle for vip/powersafe 400w smps..

my advice is 8400GS is just approx 500 higher than 7100GS....and performs well for a low end card.seen some benchmarks..and 8400GS beats 7300GS with ease..and gives around 70% of 8500GT's performance..have not played games so far...but have viewed 720p and 1080p videos..very very less cpu utilization..

will post after playing some games tomorrow.
