Hi everyone

I am a Newbie here - have a unique situation

Need a Display with lotsa real estate...as I need to watch multiple feeds simultaneous (as in stock market charts) on a large screen - This system is not for games / HD movies and shall never be OCed

looking at a 22 or 24 incher 15K budget

Sys is
Intel C2D E7300
Current Power Supply is 400W
DDR2 800 2GB
Syncmaster 17in (need to up this one)
Current onboard GPU is NVIDIA nForce 610i (guess this changes too)

I searched thro' all the threads here and found the GPU rating goes up with display size cause Games and HD needed that - can I go for a midrange GPU in the 5-7K range as my usage for this system is different?
Any advice is welcome....

Cheers
Puli

In your total budget of 20-22k, get two 22" full hd monitors and a basic gfx card like 8400GS with dual dvi outputs.

Edit: Ohh, and welcome to TE :)

you can do with a very basic graphic card like 9400GS or 9500, since your requirement is not gaming or HD movies.

For more screen real estate, i would recommend buy 2 monitors, even if it means buying two 19'' monitors. having two monitors would really increase productivity, where in you can use one monitor for watching multiple feeds etc. and the second monitor for other work like replying to mails, chatting etc.

having 2 monitors in your case would be the best, because even if you have a 30 inch monitor, you'll have lots of trouble managing multiple windows, holding them in foreground pop-ups etc.

I would also recommend a dual 22" monitor setup instead of a single 24" monitor. If budget is a constraint, you can also get two different monitors like one 22" and another 20" since your primary use is watching feeds and the monitors' size difference will not matter in tha case.

Can offer you an old 7950 GX2 card, which is non-HD, non OC, for 4K. It has 2 DVI outputs and supports upto 2560x1600 resolution

Thank you folks for the guidance. Special thanks for the 'out of the box' thinking in suggesting two monitors - that was cool. Let me chew on these inputs and come back once I hav bought the stuff (maybe post some pics too?)

And yes. thanks for the welcome zhopudey - its good to b here.

^^ If you do go for 2 monitors, I would advice a nvidia card. Their dual monitor support is really great. Very easy and intuitive to use.

i'll suggest you to buy two 19" monitors costing around 8k each with Nvidia card for around 3-4k range so total goes to around 19-20k.
