Great news! TataSky+ DVR Service

how can any service mete out mpeg4 boxes and still relay mpeg2????? what sense does it make to the consumer? besides that, its not difficult to make a move to mpeg4 as i think tatasky might be slowly but surely phasing out the mpeg2 transponders, and the best way to do it, i think, cos they are being paid for it(tata sky plus)

in order to do that, they will have to first phase out ALL current stbs since they dont support mpeg4. so i guess thats not happening in the near future.

So will this dvr only work with tata sky? And what abt. HD broadcast? When the hell is that gonna happen?? And when it does happen what happens to this dvr? Will we be forced to dump this and get that new HD capable STB? And then go out and buy HD pvr also ?? Also the recorded stuff can't be transferred to the computer.

Any way i will still buy this thing. Can't live without a pvr...i am missing all my fav. programs....

ok guys heres the news we all have been waiting for, since a long time.

tata sky+ has come out with an offer for its exisiting customers and the final price is 5999. i think thats a good deal considering we are getting great hardware and an upscale of quality(confirmed by my friend whos mom works for tata sky)

2 things:

you MUST have a subscription to the annual ss pack or mega annual pack. i have the former.

THERE IS COMPONENT OUT... that means hd may be possible when it arrives. and it also lays to rest all the issues about the mpeg4 transmission that is going to be present and undiluted because of the component connection.

THATS THE BIG NEWS. there is also ethernet, svideo, spdif optical out.

ok another big news. i ordered it. and i expect it anytime in the next 2-3 days.

i think im going to be the first on techenclve to have this, and i shall post photos of the same.

will keep ull posted. cheers till then.

ps: tatasky plus website updated with plans for present subscribers. same as mentioned by me. i got a call from drive india which does the sales for tata sky in india. whooopeee im excited. but 5999 has already been deducted from my bank account :-( cant wait anymore now

can you please post back and let us know if there is any PQ improvement with the new receiver, esp. with component out

The PQ on my tatasky is currentlt so $hitty , i hardly watch tv anymore

Lets see, even my STB should be here in next 2-3 days( Mostly monday as weekend is bt. Paid 5999/-

But the procedure is to call the Tata sky engineer after getting the STB. So its another day or two after getting the STB(ofcourse I probably wont wait for that and atleast see what happens when I connect it and put in my digicard :P )

you cant shripad. from photos posted on popular forums, the ts+ box is a humax box but the cincher is that it needs 2 inputs from the dish. so no diy can happen there.. you HAVE to wait for the engineers. besides that the digicard will not function in this box unless the box is registered at ts, and that means no tv for a couple of days after the box arrives :-(

Rushed home just a while back as tatasky guys were coming for installation. They just came and installed new Dish and PVR. Quick photos.

The STB has Component out, coaxial out, SPDIF optical out, Ethernet, USB and Model plugs along with SVIDEO :D

Detailed impressions about image quality coming tonight :D Need to get myself back to work :P

Ok, so the TataSky +.

Image Quality is definitely up. The MPEG artefacts are greatly reduced, image is sharper, colours are great. Visibly better than the TataSky.

The channel lag is still there, but it does not bother me.

USB and ethernet have no functionality at the moment. Its for future feature additions according to TataSky. The component output is really nice and digital sound makes a lot of difference to sound quality.

They replaced my dish as well along with the receiver head. Signal Quality and strength is now 100%.

Recording, rewind, pause and scheduled recording works flawlessly.

Overall, very satisfied and well worth an investment.
