Hello Guys,

I have the below system specifications:

AMD Phenom II x4 955 clocked at 4Ghz

Asus M4N75TD

8GB DDR3 Crosair XMS3 1600Mhz

Corsair 400R with 8 120mm fans

Corsair TX 750 V2 PSU

WD 500 GB SATA II

Asus GTX 560 Ti DCII 900Mhz

I would like to ask you guys that I currently have an Asus GTX 560 Ti 1GB GPU. Will the 1GB VRAM be a limitation in games by next year. Should I add another GTX 560 Ti for SLI or replace the card with a 2GB GPU.

I feel that selling your 560 Ti and then getting the 7950 would be the best course of action for you right now.

But I'd advice you to wait for the Nvidia 6XX series, after which you can choose what to do.

I personally always prefer that you choose a single card solution. Plus these new 28nm chips at the same amount of power consumption, provide a ton of more performance.

I am not worried about power consumption or temps. They are both fine. If I add another 560 Ti then it will give me a GTX 680 like performance and I am aware about it. But what I am really concerned about is the amount of VRAM on the GTX 560 Ti. I only game at 1080p so will the 1 GB VRAM be an issue going forward.

Question is that ,are you facing any problem in gaming?

If NO then why worry. Game-on until you start facing some problem and then think about whether to buy a replace this with a new card or SLI it with another card. Doing this either one of the options you choose the price at you will get will be stable or low if you prefer SLI.

If YES which i don't think you should be. Go with a 7870 cause seriously 7950 will be an overkill for your resolution IMHO. Same goes for me. I'm on HD6950 gaming on 1080p. When i'll start facing problem i'll go with a 7870 and later on overclock it!

Hope this helps.

But dont you think that if I wait, the GTX 600 mid range card will release in some time and the GTX 560 Ti production would be stopped as the GTX 580's have already.

Then if something goes wrong with your GTX 560Ti you will automatically be granted a GTX 660Ti in replacement. Also I don't think GTX 560Ti will be pulled out of production outright because --
  • It is not a top-tier card, so it has a much longer product life-cycle and once it is out of its prime it will be suitably repriced to target lower end cards.
  • Even after the introduction of the GTX 660 family, the price gap between the GTX 550Ti and GTX 660's will be large enough that the GTX 560 family will be pressed as a stop gap measure.

Honestly if you are able to play games fine right now, please stick to the current graphics card and save money. When Kepler cards release think about upgrading then.

Hope this helps and clears any doubts, Cheers!!

I honestly think that instead of sli'ing, you should sell it and go for GTX680, which is going as low as 32k at SMC. Plus they have only one in stock! So you gotta hurry ofcourse if you want to go for above mentioned!

I think very few games will need more than 1gb at that rez . But there will be a few no doubt. Rather than invest in another 560 I say sell the current one and get 1.5 gb 660 when its out.

One last question, if I decide to sell my GTX 560 Ti, where do I sell it. I am not aware of selling. Can I sell it on this forum.

@OP, If you're not concerned about Power consumption, then buy another GTX 560 ti for SLI . It's SLI performance is near to GTX 580 and is worth it. IMO, anything above 60 fps in games isn't going to matter much at 1080p if you've 60Hz LED monitor. 2 x 560ti will give you enough juice to run all games at decent fps without lag. I hope you're getting my point and I fully agree with ALPHA17's advice.

Not worth cause i have run 580 in SLI ready and the power consumer is very high around 800-900 watt , cause of power fail and my ups fail to boot at high power consumer while gaming so i am decide to get new high end ups around 2 kva for more backup time

But your LCD is 1440p isn't it so you might be needing such high config. Rest in OP's case. I don't think he needs something like GTX580 SLI right now. Plus afai think he might not be having any gaming issues? 560Ti is very descent card. OP my advice is again the same. Wait until you see any lagging etc then buy the latest one.
