I think it's time TE should take it to next level. IMO TE is one of top Indian Tech Communities. With upgrade from VB to IPB is really good & has introduced new eye candy to forums. And also social networking features among members.

What I feel is, we need a kickass homepage. The current one is good, but I think we need something more than that. There are many tech sites which have blog / powerful CMS as homepage with a bridge to forum software.

I like tech2's landing page : http://tech2.in.com/

even Toms Hardware also really good one : http://www.tomshardware.com/

We already have a in-house content writers / tech reporters / editors. So what do you guys say ? Please participate in poll

I think both the homepages are a lot busy for my taste. So much content (and lot of it is dynamic!) kinda puts you off when you are looking for something specific. IMO, the landing page should have a central frame with scrollable 'Top news' and side panels which show gracefully changing content. Some examples (which are quite common):

http://www.engadget.com/

http://gizmodo.com/

http://www.theverge.com/

Few more thoughts: I think the main news should be India specific since this is an Indian tech forum after all. International tech news is easily acquired and doing so is just redundant. Of course, that doesn't mean all news has to be limited to India and you can vary according to the significance. More edits when I can think of stuff to add.

Where do you get the staff and money ?

The USP of TE is the community. Focussing too much on CMS part needs lot of resources and is a total misfit.

Dare I say, it will be like a me-too effort.

There TE staff already who post daily news. I am just suggesting a new UI + more news material.

Sire, it just puts the focus back on the factor that we do not have enough staff and capital to undertake such a situation yet.

Also, most content writers and staff members of sites like Tom's Hardware are full time in the job and are paid at par, I doubt we can boast of those fund levels as of now.

Maybe in a few years when we have spread out further and have a decent PR wing as well as people dedicatedly working in conjunction with companies like Corsair and enough time on their hands and 'leaks' passed to them then we can take TE to the level you are hoping.

I do not want TE to stop here, in the 2 years that I have been a part of it I just want to contribute more to it and want it to be something akin to India's Anandtech and if I can devote more attention to it I will not flinch. [I think I just heard my parents calling the MTNL folks to snap the connection]

even I wish TE becomes Anand Tech

TE was started in 2003-04 I guess. It's already 8 BIG years old, I thought it's the time take big leap. There are so many people contribute here & post reviews here, how about moving them on homepage with a good UI.

Same as #[member='Neo-N'] I have bookmarked Forum index. I skip to forum index itself. I am agree with #[member='avi']'s views but we don't really need something like CMS to make homepage look like that. What we have for a homepage is really very good and it always makes us feel that this is a Forum

Okay, some improvements can be done (In the manner of style, CSS though.) Blocks needs (Content and Sidebar) some CSS styling to make it look good. Maybe a shadow and border with opacity will make it look good or good use of CSS3 will also make it look good. Nothing else we need.

With current content CMS will be an overkill . I would like more aesthetic homepage but having a dedicated thing like CMS needs constant content creation which is not feasible right now. IMO .

I think TE's charm comes more from the community feel rather than anything else which is a big diffrentiating factor. I for one come here not for the regular, industrial grade, run of the mill news about the tech world rather more to interact with fellow tech enthusiasts on topics of interest to me, get unbiased reviews / suggestions and gain from different experiences and perspectives while also contributing with whatever little knowledge I have myslef. I wouldn't classify TE as a "Tech site" per say rather its more like an "adda" where friends get together and take stock of the day. My vote - Let it be the way it is.

i agree that TE should have better landing page . have already suggested to have a landing page in which news items can be visible in a better way , like individual news posts on main page so that its more visible and appealing . and separate posts of reviews and guides like other sites .

Large blank spaces because it is a 1600 x 1200 photo so optimizing the design for standard 1024 width will make it look better.

Guys, something weird happened a couple times, a couple days back I clicked on a show off thread and it routed me to some other website, I thought this was a one off, but today again I clicked on another show off thread, and it took me to 'indiatimes shopping' site, is this intentional?

What has that got to do with this thread? And this is not only non-intentional, but also impossible as far as TE is concerned. Maybe your browser triggered something.

sorry for taking it OT, but I just had to ask. Thanks for responding.
