Guys a friend of mine asked for a config he wants to build. He already has this LCD - Viewsonic 19inch 1440x900
He wants that he is able to play these upcoming games to the max ACIII Max Payne etc etc
His Rig: I suggested him a while back he said he will buy gpu later so..
Intel Core i3 2100
GIGABYTE GA-H61M-S2P-B3
Corsair 4GB DDR3
Seasonic S12II 430w

My question is that will this HD6850 be able to handle all the games @max on this res for atleast a year?

I have HD6850 and i play at high-mid setting on full hd reso so HD6850 for 1440X900 is good enough for high-very high settings. Also you accidentally tagged some user.;)

@Altair your friend can purchase a HD 6850 OR HD 7770 GHz edition, they will be enough as long as he doesn't go over ~1600 x900 [20" native resolution] -- in most games he can crank out high -->medium details @1440 x990, heck even my HD 5770 is doing fine.

Here are a few benchmark runs [control is the HD 6850] --
AMD HD 7770 GHz edition
AMD HD 5770

  • The HD 7770 GHz edition leads in certain Dx 11 titles, so get a better picture before making a purchase.
  • Also not that the HD 7770 GHz edition will perform better than its brethren in GPGPU taks; this because the newer Graphics Core Next architecture is geared to do so.
  • The HD 5770 is completely outclassed because it is the oldest of these three, but for an entry-level system it still packs a lot of muscle.

Happy gaming to your friend.

P.S. -- I went to that fb page, there is comedian masquerading about as ...Iorveth Sharma. And then I was just left speechless, the awesome discussions going on there.

Thanks ALPHA17 Jakob and comp@ddict.

As far as i see it. HD7770 and HD6850 are on par with each other. But the latter is new gen, less power consuming etc. Plus the stuff about GPGPU i had very less knowledge read the whole wiki page. :ashamed: Thanks for the stuff alpha.
So i will suggesting him HD7770 rather than HD6850 and he's good to go. Though he will be able to play AC3/Maxpayne etc @full settings right(Didn't used max :P)?

HaHahaha...
Brother you have NO IDEA how i control myself by not posting :cursing: stuffs. I've asked the guy to join TE and let me know his id. He'll join soon. And Iorveth Sharma is arahan.

BTW the friend whose this thread is about has joined TE now. I asked him. prince3893 I'll ask him to post here if he can.

P.S. Off to Witcher 2 now. May the whatever...I'll post back. :P

As your friend will be getting GPU later, you might want to consider a better PSU for him. Although either of HD7770 or HD6850 will do fine on Seasonic S12II 430w, getting better PSU won't hurt(besides pocket) and will provide headroom for future upgrades and overclocking.
Look here: Power consumption of 6850 and 7770.

6850 will easily handle that res..
my toxic 6850 runs all games in high settings at full hd res without any problems..
