Hi,

I recently bought a 2TB external HDD ( Seagate). On connecting to my pc,
it is showing to have 1.8TB space. Is there anything wrong with the drive? Please advise.

Thanks

This is because theoretically 1 KB = 1024 bytes whereas practically 1 KB=1000bytes & this follows to any capacity.
So, if you calculate, 2TB of drive has space of ~1.8TB which is absolutely normal.

160 GB = 152 GB of usable space,

250 GB = 232 GB <do>,

320 GB = 298 GB <do>,

500 GB = 465 GB <do>,

640 GB = 595.5 GB <do>,

1 TB = 935.5 GB <do>,

1.5 TB = 1.36 TB <do>,

2 TB = 1.82 TB <do>.

Because of the reason he ^ mentioned. Kapish? :p
