Storage Solutions HDD Malfunction - READ OK /WRITES Very Slow

I have a Verbatim 500 gb external 2.5inch usb drive.

Today morning the speed while copying files was around 0.5MBps which is really slow.

any help on this would be great - I can access the disk, delete files and read files fine.
