Help! Buying an LCD TV(>40k)

Hey guys, we're planning to buy an LCD tv with a max budget of 35k,

We have most of the products from sony, including the old CRT tv, cordless phone, cell phone, 120+120w rms music player, dvd player, car audio, car speakers, and now i feel products of other brands are just crap.

I started researching and found a Sony S series 26" LCD for 35k HD ready and T series 26" for 29.9k HD ready, The only difference is the contrast ratio, The S series has a contrast ratio of 15000:1 and the T series has 10000:1
for 5k more i get a better contrast ratio, plus better looks, The S series has a black glossy finish and the t series has a black mat finish.
Questions:

1. Does the contrast ratio matter a lot?

2. Should i go for samsung LA26A450C1(which sells for 36k) with 5000:1 contrast ratio instead? (I prefer sony over any other brand, like sony's punchline says "like.no.other")

3. I'll change my mind only if other brands offer more features.

4. What are the main features i should look for in a budget LCD tv?(forget full HD for under 35k)

The main part, My cousin works for samsung so he gets a 40% for 3 samsung products a year, so i get a bigger samsung LCD for the cost of a smaller SONY LCD, Ya true, everyone wants a bigger screen, but i want SONY even though the screen is smaller :(
Suggest me a few Samsung models too, I'll go check them in a showroom.

Anyone here to prove samsung is equally good?:)

sony and samsung use the same panels in most of their recent midrange models, and the difference is only between the image processing engine. While sony does look a notch above than the samsung, the samsung aren't dull slobs either. check out the series 5 stuff from samsung, its sure worth the moolah.

Assuming your budget is south of 40K, i think even the samsung plasma (A410) will fit your budget, it sells for 55K retail. 40% of that is 22k so u'll get it at 33k which is a really sweet deal for a 43 incher, think about the double screen size and pleasure of viewing a plasma instead of the irritating LCD.
If only LCd then may i suggest the almighty panny 32" LX800? iirc someone mentioned its going for ~35k nowadays.

IMO bigger screen size makes a lot of difference, and if you are going in for a flat panel, anything below 32" will not do justice. Some bucks well spent will definitely be better for you in the longer run.

youll probably be able to get the 32" S series samsung for 35-37k, i got a quote of 38k just 2 days ago with some thinsg bundled with it and ill mostly get a further discount if i dont take those.

Otherwise you can get the Panasonic Lx8C i think for under 35k but make sure u demo both the TVs side by side

well if u cousin can get discount off then he can go for a samsung series 5 32inch,reason the sony 32inch S400A series has a low contrast where as the samsung uses the same panel found in sony W series and samsung 6 series.
while sony S400A will be good for SD content since it has to upscale to a lesser extent then FHD lcds like samsung series 5 ,sony W series.
finally check it out urself and see which best suits ur eyes.
dont eveb think of going for 26inch tvs they mostly will have TN panels and even if they dont they have low contrast panels.

Sorry for replying late guys,
@sarang, No plasms dude, Heard they consume power upto 300w :O
@adder and rave, I checked out different TVs personally and found samsung 32" 5 series really good and have asked my cousin to place an order from his company. Expecting it within 15-20 days :) with a cool 40% off :P
