Storage Solutions Help me build a compact DIY NAS

Greetings.
Looking for inputs to build a compact DIY NAS.

Usage
  • This nas will be primarily for central storage with private cloud + home media needs ( SMB/DLNA )
  • Devices connected
    • Phones x 5
    • TV x 2
    • PC/Laptop x 4
  • 2 bays would be sufficient. With one drive mirroring the other .
  • Expecting to be as compact as possible
  • Will be stowing away up in the attic
  • To run 24x7
  • 1G lan connectivity w/ main router
The components I have
  • CPU - 6700k
  • Ram - Gskill 16G x 1 2400Mhz Ripjaws V
  • SSD - 2 x 2.5" ( Samsung 860 evo and WD one )
  • PSU - CM V650
  • UPS - APC - 650W
  • Needs
    • Mobo - Need a SFF one ( Have Z170 Sabertooth Mark-1 .. but its form factor is too big )
    • HDD - Need 2 ( 6-8 TB)
    • Cabinet
    • Cooling solution
I also have
  • An I7 based Nuc with 16GB ram and 1TB+1TB SSD
    • Use for VMs
    • Also hosts OMV which I'll move to NAS
  • One RPi 3b hosting pihole

Inputs I need
  • How can I build a compact NAS using above mentioned components?
  • Which of components I need to replace and with what ?
  • Anything else ?
