Hi .. am changing my office CPU and going in for this config. Use will be Emailing, MS Office etc and no gaming. Wont do any overclocking.

Proc: Intel E5200

MoBo: Intel DG31PR (I wanted Gigabyte G31M-S2L as most ppl here prefer that, but my comp guy says that Intel will be more reliable. What do u guys suggest? Remember I wont do any OCing)

RAM - DDR2 1 GB Kingston

Hard Drive - Samsung 320gb (Again I wanted Seagate but comp guy said that Samsung has 5 years warranty vs Seagate's 3. Also I need max about 20 gb storage but almost all hard drives lower than this have similar price. Should I go in for a lower capacity hard drive for reliability?)

DVD-RW - Which one should I go for. Will use it maybe maximum once a month.

Cabinet - Zebronics

Any suggestions. Also what should be the approx prices for these?

Proc: Intel E5200 ~3.5k
MoBo: Intel DG31PR (I wanted Gigabyte G31M-S2L as most ppl here prefer that, but my comp guy says that Intel will be more reliable. What do u guys suggest? Remember I wont do any OCing) The Gigabyte board (2.3k) works stable even when its not OC'ed. The Intel board AFAIK is going to be marginally expensive as well.
RAM - DDR2 1 GB Kingston ~700 bucks.
Hard Drive - Samsung 320gb (Again I wanted Seagate but comp guy said that Samsung has 5 years warranty vs Seagate's 3. Also I need max about 20 gb storage but almost all hard drives lower than this have similar price. Should I go in for a lower capacity hard drive for reliability?) Cant comment on Samsung hard drives but they've been reliable. Never heard of their customer service either. I'd say go with the Seagate/WD instead.
DVD-RW - Which one should I go for. Will use it maybe maximum once a month. LG GH20N/ Samsung SH223 D ~1.1k
Cabinet - Zebronics ~800-1.1k

Any suggestions. Also what should be the approx prices for these?

charlimit.

i am planning to buy something similar in the near future, but have a space constraint in the office and hence thinking of going for a laptop instead. Lets c, would do a cost benefit analysis of both options.

Anyways if you just need it for the purposes mentioned you could also consider atom procs, theyr comparatively much cheaper, (reliable as far as i know), low power consuming and you can also use a micro casing with them ( i would like to know though if micro casing is cheaper/expensive than normal ones).

also for ram opt for 2 gb (the price difference would be 4-500 which is totally worth it in my opinion.)

and in hard disk i believe which is value for money can be choosen. If nothing else you can use it to dump/backup your audio videos. :)

Thanks for the replies. My budget is ... "save as much money as possible." :)

But I want something reliable and future proof. Moreover at times we need to convert data etc between different versions of Tally for which having a faster processor would help.

So only confusions still remaining are:

1. Should I buy Mobo Intel DG31PR for 3350/- or Asus G31+ ICH7 for 2800/- (Gigabyte board not available here)

2. Should I go for Samsung hard drive or insist on Seagate

I live in a small town so prices are obviously a little higher.

well for hard drives samsung is a big NO NO

go for Seagate (not sure 3 or 5 years warranty)
and for 5 year warranty go for Western Digital

Well as for boards go for asus
not that intel is bad but it doesn't offer anything more than asus one for the high price
Also you can get ur parts from THEITWARES

they ship it anywhere in India
don't know abt the shipping cost but the prices are superb

Recommended config
E5200
Asus P5KPL-CM
2GB Transcend Ram
320Gb SATA Western Digital
DVDRW- Samsung/LG
monitor may be 17" LCD (Viewsonic)
any cabinet with smps would do

Are you more inclined towards intel rig?will AMD be okay ?

neways for office rig E5200 for 3.5k with intel or Asus mobo around 3k..

for AMD i wiuld suggest AthlonX2 7750 for 3.5k with gigabte M61M2se for 2.3k mobo with nvidia gfx...

hdd i wuld prefer seagate over samsung...

Seagate 160GB-2k

RAM Transcend 2GB for 1075/-chk for letter "P" on barcode....

DVD RW -Samsung SH223F armd 1.1k

cabinet-zebronics bijli with SMPS-1.6k

Instead I'd suggest a Sempron X2 + 690V + 2GB RAM + 160GB HDD.

Bunk the DVDRW I believe in your office there must be LAN and some other PC must have a DVDRW.

This machine would be perfect for any of the tasks you have mentioned.
