Graphic Cards Help needed! My 5850 underperformed..:(

First of All my bencmark on Vantage are set and scored as below:
Benchmark: Performance test
GPU Score: 12400
CPU Score: 11700

other system that similarly to mine (Q6600@3.2GHz+HD5850) getting GPU score of around 14400k while i am overclocked my Q6600 to 3.6GHz. I checked my CPU performance and it is clocked well and stable at 3.6GHz so i dunno wheres the problem lies.

My mobo only support pcie 1.1 and the other system use v2.0 but i dont think thats the problem, i am losing 2000 score in Vantage and it was obvious that something is not right with my system either hardware/os/driver...

I am using 32bit system and this couldn't be the problem i guess. Please help and thanks in advance...

Re: Helps needed! My 5850 underperformed..:(

install latest drivers, first remove all existing old drivers and also use drivercleaner

Re: Helps needed! My 5850 underperformed..:(

Are you on the 10.3 drivers. Try those, are good.

By the way, great OC, specially the RAM.

Re: Helps needed! My 5850 underperformed..:(

what asignh says is true i had made a post earlier where i had got a differnce of about 500 points between 10.2 and 10.3 for my 5850 ... but i strongly suggest moving to 64 bit ... 32 bit can only address 2 power 32 memory locations ... with GPU u have something like 5 gb of memory location so it might be a limiting factor although that i dont got any hard proof to show how much the diffrence is going to be ...10.3 preview drivers if you are using 10.2 and a move to 64 bit might impove the performance a bit ...

download 10.3 from here 10.3

Re: Helps needed! My 5850 underperformed..:(

hmm not bad my 3d mark score 15k better than your :| with gtx 280 and amd phenom x/4

cause your need to download latest driver and update to 64 bit os stable and latest tweak hot fix bug

Re: Helps needed! My 5850 underperformed..:(

yea HD5850 should outperform GTX285, how come even GTX280 got higher score than mine...

I tried removed the drivers using driver sweeper in safe mode, then install latest 10.3a pre but still no luck...same results only 12800 GPU score. I will bench again after upgrade to Win7 64bit and update my score...thanks guys :).

actually my score remains at 12k+ using all 10.1,10.2,10.3pre and 10.3a pre at 5850 stock speed.

if you meant 15k more then his score you might be talking about 3dmark 06 ... he was talking vantage ...

Re: Helps needed! My 5850 underperformed..:(

12k is very low score , i got 17600 with slightly oced 5850 ..

btw ur siggy says 5850 @ 1ghz . how did u oc that much ? bios flash ?

Re: Helps needed! My 5850 underperformed..:(

@sid_donnydarko - GPU-Z shows "PCI-E x16@ x16 ". It runs at full speed actually. When I OC this card, the Vantage GPU score can go up to 14.7k max(1GHz core). not good enough for 5850 i believe.

@RoBoGhost - 12k is really low for sure because I am not using pentium 4 whatsoever... I OC using MSI Afterburner, I play almost all latest games with this clock except crysis/warhead, needs to downclock to 950MHz for stability:). However 12.4k GPU score is at stock clock with stock HSF.

Re: Helps needed! My 5850 underperformed..:(

^^

See the GPU load while running Vantage. Rivatuner should be able to show you a graph. If it is not being stressed 100%, means you have a link issue (hardware), or driver problem.

Re: Helps needed! My 5850 underperformed..:(

I've put the SH taken on afterburner on my GPU usage. why does the usage flunctuate like that? i think it should maintain at 99% under benchmark right?

Re: Helps needed! My 5850 underperformed..:(

^^

It would change, when the levels change, so the GPU is stressed less. What it shows using Furmark.

opps sorry that is my mistake was confuse

btw i got 15k at vantage my bad :p

anyway i got scored at extreme oc where i keep oc the cpu at 4 ghz and gpu upto 750 core :p

btw i am not sure that is gpu fault not stable to loading the fps rate

Re: Helps needed! My 5850 underperformed..:(

^^

Wow...that is high. Is the 15K Vantage, the GPU score, or the over all you get..?

Re: Helps needed! My 5850 underperformed..:(

no, i am only testing two game test. the fluctuation happen during the benchmark on both gametest1 and gametest2. The gap between those two game test can be seen clearly from the pictures when the levels loading while only 20% of GPU loaded.

I will check furmark test now... thanks mate

testing under unigine and furmark, GPU load maintain 99% during benchmark. I wonder why it didn't load 99% stable while Vantage benchmark. I'll try to reinstall Vantage on my PC.

Re: Helps needed! My 5850 underperformed..:(

gosh doont be so obsessed with synthetic benchies, dont see any problem especially when REAL games are running perfect.

I'm perfectly fine if it is 300-500 GPU marks but I am talking about 2000+ GPU marks here. You might not understand how much fps I lost from 2000 Vantage marks. if you divide 2000/14000 and calculate the FPS I might've lost around 10fps over 70fps on GPU performance. I know synthetic benchies dont really explains the real gameplay but mathematically or theoretically yes it will affect my FPS in games .

I understand that in games that didnt stressed 5850 that much i wont notice the performance reduce, but for games like crysis/warhead/BC2/metro2033 i will surely lost a feel of smoothness in gameplay at highest settings. And Its really happen to me in crysis and crysis warhead right now. Thats why I'm asking helps from an experts here... peace ;)

Yes I am testing both gametest 1 and gametest 2 in 3DMark Vantage Gametest. I think the names should be "Jane Nash" and "New Calico". These two are internal default Gametests in Vantage benchmark to bench our GPU performance.

If anyone know about the GPU score, was it depends on CPU speed? I tried to downclock my CPU speed and the GPU score also decrease respectively once the CPU speed lowered.
