CPU/Mobo help... suggestion required regarding CPU..

Hi all,

Following is my config:

P4 Presscot @ 3Ghz (:@ )
ASUS P5B
Transcend JetRAM @667 Mhz 2*1 GB
Samsung 80GB HDD
Palit 7600GT @ stock
Powersafe 450 W PSU

and some more cards lying..
Pinnacle 110i TV Tuner
Creative Live Value 5.1
BIG 7100

Now as the CPU is behaving like a working helicopter (actually from earlier itself but nowadayz got sick of it :( )

Now need to upgrade it bfore the damn CPU fails...

Guyz plz suggest some good options as the mobo seems to support all the C2ds available and also the 45nms (i guess)...

Primary use is for gaming and developer machine with plan for mild to medium overclocks..

well cost is not really fixed.. Actually I'm confused... to wait for quad cores or just settle down with a mainstream CPU right now.. Anything from 6 k to 12 K is fine with me..
 
^^^e6750 wud be more value of money @ 8k, and would serve you well for atleast the next year...then it might start showing its age with games and applications starting to use multi cores.
 
If ur on stock cooling i doubt ull be able to overclock the E6750 too much, and quads will generate a lot of heat. If u have good cooling go for the quad. Tho im not sure how good that board will be able to oc the 333 fsb proccy or the quad. You could also go for a E4400 and overclock that, will oc easier and its cheaper
 
Hey guys ... thanks for the suggestion.. well I dont have a better cooling... so probably quadcore is out of question. May be I shuld go for E6600 if still available or some other good dual core... what say guyz?
 
:) The e6600 and the e6750 are priced identically.....so obviously the e6750 it should be...I do not know though whether your board supports it
 
man the GO stepping C2Q are there check out with funky hes got one i guess. and might fall in your budget also else the e6750 is the best other option

C2D @ 8k E6750 budget also good comparable

C2Q @ 13k though not really a true quad core !! that's why but still a quad core !!
