Forerunner
ok i have a pretty worked up system , q6600 + 8800gt and p5b dlx mobo ,powered with a vip gold psu , been working on it for 2 years with no problems,
lately or ever since i told it out loud and my computer heard it that i am putting a new system together that problems arose ( no i am not kidding)
it randomnly restarts, no blue screens none , i checked the temperatures , everything is normal and now for that past 3 days , it only restarts at night,

i have already removed the restart on error box and hoping to get a blue screen but no , its not that , it could be/must be the psu , but just a nagging doubt , why only at night? does it get stressed out by running the machine throughout the day?

TIA

It could be RAM, PSU or mobo. Try running Prime95 loops and check if comp restarts, in addition run a memtest to rule out any RAM problems. RAM problems general give rise to a blue screen, hence your hypothesis could be true.

Random restarts without BSOD is typically indicative of a weak/failing PSU (or electricity supply isssues at times).

Please test your system with another PSU of adequate wattage and good quality.

You may try loading your present PSU using something like RTHDRIBL or some stress test/utility and see if it restarts under load.

In your case, i feel that full-time/24x7 rendering = PC sees max loads most of the time- the PSU may be about to give up after almost 2 years of use.

A VIP Gold, mostly a 500W model in your case, was an entry level PSU imho, of just about acceptable quality/reliability at a time when real good PSUs were quite expensive.

With a config and usage like yours, it has maybe served you quite well.
