Hi Everybody! this is booo from hyderabad.

I was researching on the net for my new system and thats how i stumped on to this forum.

I am a system programmer and gaming enthusiast.

My current setup:
compaq pressario 6102 AU laptop with
AMD turion 64x2 1.6 ghz
2gb ram
nvidia 6150
100 GB hdd
dual layer dvd writer
15" wide screen

and this lappy is connected to a 19" viewsonic lcd screen and a 500GB WD usb hard drive.

Since this laptop is almost 2 years old I managed to convince my big bro to take it in lieu of 30k and I am planning to setup my new rig.

The plan is like this (AMD spider platform):
AMD Phenom
MSI 790FX mobo
ATI Radeon HD 3870X2
Since I have a things like lcd screen, usb hdd and things like kb and mouse
a 160GB hdd
dvd burner

I am confused while selecting proper power supply and ram. :S

I might buy one more lcd later when I have some more money. my budget is currently tied to ~55K

Apart from these things,

• I am a hardcore c++ programmer.
• I have a HTC touch
• I have a Canon 300D Digital SLR, love to take photos
• I have a ps2
• I have a Pulsar 200 and am a serious biker.
• I have 256kbps bsnl connection and I download ~50GB every month.
• I love watching movies, usually 1 per day.
• I have a suzuki swift zxi but use it only for commuting.
• I use both windows and linux. and expert on both.

Its been like 5 years since I assembled my last machine, so I request all the nice people here to give me suggestions on this.

This easily ranks as the most detailed intro thread I have ever seen!

About your rig, you should probably start a new thread in the PC Peripherals section to get some good advice on that.

2 cents from my end - the 'Spider' platform isn't all that great. Mostly due to the lacklustre performance from the Phenom, quite a few of the touted features on the 790FX chipset not working and I highly doubt the easy availability of 790FX based boards in India. Even if you are the true AMD fanboy, you'd want to wait for the 'B3' revision of the Phenoms to hit the shelves which corrects a few issues. Else you could look for a decent P35 or X38 chipset based board and couple it with an Intel Q6600. The ATI 3870X2 though is a good choice

As per the power supply, there are a slew of good options from Corsair and Tagan .. I guess the Corsair HX620 should suit you fine. For RAM , if you're running your setup at stock.. just look for sticks that can do nice tight timings like 4-4-4-12 at 667 speeds. If you plan to overclock as well, quite a few good ones can be sourced that should offer you the headroom needed (i'm not in touch, so the others can drop their suggestions).

as for smps as eddy suggested corsair hx620 wud suffice ur needs
as for rams if u wan gaming rams with great overclockin potential seek for gskill/patriot
corsair xms2 r great performers too....
