First post here-thanks in advance for your help!

1. Q: What is your budget?
1. 100K-150k

2. Q: What is your existing hardware configuration (component name - component brand and model)
1. CPU - Intel P4 2.4GHz (ancient)
2. Motherboard - Asus (don't remember the model)
3. GPU - Nvidia Geforce 4 MX 440
4. RAM - Kingston 2gb
5. Monitor - Samsung 19' CRT
6. SMPS - Don't knw. It came with the system
7. Sound Card- Audigy 2 ZS
8. Speakers- Logitech Z-5500
9. DVD RW- LG 16x
10. HDDs- Seagate 80 GB IDE and Seagate 500 GB IDE
11. UPS- Elnova 600 VA
12. Keyboard and Mouse- Logitech

3. Q: Which hardware will you be keeping (component name - component brand and model)
1. Sound Card- Audigy 2 ZS
2. Speakers- Logitech Z-5500
3. HDD- Possibly use the Seagate 500 GB IDE to transfer all my data to the new rig.

4. Q: Which hardware component are you looking to buy (component name). If you have already decided on a configuration then please mention the (component brand and model) as well, this will help us in fine tuning your requirement.
1. CPU - Intel i7 920
2. Motherboard - Asus P6T Deluxe v2
3. GPU - evGA Nvidia 295 GTX
4. Monitor- Samsung T240 24" LCD(not sure if this is available or what the price is)
5. Case- CM 690
6. HDDs- Two Western Digital Black 1 TB SATA drives in RAID
7. RAM- 6 GB Corsair or OCZ - 3 DIMMS of 2 gb each
8. PSU- Corsair 1000W
9. Cooling- 4 CM 120mm fans + thermal compound for processor
10. UPS- APC Pure Sine Wave 1.5 kVA
11. DVD RW- Any SATA DVD RW drive
12. Mouse- Logitech MX 518
13. Keyboard- Generic

5. Q: Is this going to be your final configuration or you would be adding/upgrading a component in near future. If yes then please mention when and which component
1. No, wouldn't want to upgrade this for at least 2-3 years.

6. Q: Where will you buy this hardware? (Online/City/TE Dealer)
1. Delhi. Online only if not available in Delhi.

7. Q: Would you consider buying a second hand hardware from the TE market
1. No.

8. Q: What is your intended use for this PC/hardware
1. Gaming
2. Work- want the 24" screen to be able to display 2 documents side by side
3. Watching HD movies
4. Download rig

9. Q: Do you have any brand preference or dislike? Please name them and the reason for your preference/dislike.
1. Considered the Dell monitors but have had bad experience with their service.
2. Have an ATI HD 2400 in my laptop which has conked off, plus have always found their driver support to be dubious, so would prefer to stick to Nvidia. My MX 440 has worked flawlessly for 5+ years.

10. Q: If you will be playing games then which type of games will you be playing?
1. Mainly RPGs like Fallout 3, the Witcher EE, Dragons Age. Want to be able to play Witcher 2 when it comes out.
11. Q: What is your preferred monitor resolution for gaming and normal usage
1. Gaming - 1920x1200
2. Desktop - 1920x1200
Like the Samsung T240 because it has a relatively larger pixel pitch, and 1920x1200 on a 24" screen should remain fairly readable. Dislike small text and my work involves a lot of reading!

12. Q: Are you looking to overclock?
1. No.

13. Q: Which operating system do you intend to use with this configuration?
1. Windows 7 Professional 64 bit

My questions-
1. Can someone recommend a good shop in Nehru Place to buy all the hardware from and provide some idea of what prices I should be looking at? Lynx seems to have most things online, but would prefer to buy from Delhi.

2. Anyone know if the Samsung T240 is available in Nehru Place?

3. Will the 4 fans and thermal paste provide sufficient cooling inside the case or should I buy an aftermarket CPU cooler? My room is air-conditioned in the summer.

4. Is the Corsair 1000W PSU overkill for this rig? Will a Corsair 850W PSU suffice? There is an approximately 5k difference in the price I think.

Any other suggestions are welcome!

This guy has to go multi GPU, for sure.

Throw another HD5870 in the mix please. And move the PSU to 850W.

Else he can go Quad Fire, with 2 x HD5970s, and I guess a 1000W supply.

add an Intel 160GB SSD to that.

As you have the budget i would suggest you get a seperate DL rig.
ATOM D945GCLF-ATOM - 3k
1 GB Transcend 800MHz DDRII - 1.1k
500 GB Seagate 7200.12 HDD - 2.4k
IBall Nettop 009(w/o SMPS) - 1.2k~
FSP SagaII 350w - 1.6k
Total: 9-9.5k. Use this as a 24/7 DL rig as this will draw very minimal power say ~30w. Its not advisable to use a i-7, HD5870 rig for 24*7 DL. Even in idle it will consume more power.

And the monitor for the Gaming rig get a
i) DELL 24" - S2409W Wide HDMi / DVI 12.5k (or)
ii) Samsung 23" P2350 Lavander Series ~11k
iii) Or go for a e-IPS panel as you can afford it. Dell has few in its lineup.( DELL S2209WA ~ 15k)

Thanks for all the responses. Seems I overestimated my budget!:)

@Anubis- had considered the HAF 922 but was put off by the lack of a removable dust filter and the fact that the grills might let in more dust than normal. My present case invariably looks like it was carried through a desert sandstorm whenever I open it up :). Plus I like the looks of the CM 690 better. Was hoping the extra fans would be able to compensate for the reduced cooling capabilities of the CM 690 compared to the HAF 922.

Will have a look at the BenQ monitor. On the Thermalright- am planning to build this rig myself, so would prefer not to do any complicated installs unless required. Do you think it is an absolute must?

@asingh- I understand that Nvidia are far from competitive in terms of price:performance but would really rather stick to Nvidia due to reasons mentioned in my original post.

@rajan1311- thanks for the link! Am checking some of the other monitors listed there. Was wary of adding a SSD because of the maintenance issues. Would rather build and forget! I understand that it is desirable to put the OS on a separate drive. Should I buy a Cheetah/Raptor for this or a 100/250gb SATA drive?

I'm planning to build this latest by the first week of January. Will post pics! Thanks again for your help.

HDD -> Put 2x150GB WD Velociraptor (in RAID0) for OS/Gaming + 2x1TB Seagate 7200.12 for data

Case -> For a mid-tower, NZXT Tempest is gr8 for both of its looks and cooling feature. Otherwise get a large Lian-Li / CM 932 for multi GPU system.

I'd suggest you either get a 4870/GTX260 for few months and then get GT3xx when it comes out.

As karthi suggested, you may choose a separate rig for d/l if you need. Consider the Zotac Ion platform.

@Karthi- I'll be retaining my old computer, and I think 3 rigs around the house may be a bit much :). I can also use my laptop which is on 24/7 for downloading and transfer to the new rig as they will be on the same network.

But thanks for the suggestion- I had no idea that a d/ rig can be had so economically! On the Dell monitor suggestion, my inhibitions are reinforced by reading the recent Dell problem thread on this forum.

Called a few NP shops today but no one seemed to have any 24" monitors in stock. Any suggestions?

Have learnt a lot by lurking around the TE forums and hope to learn even more now that I've signed up!

dude .. dont blow a lot on the latest gcard, instead save some and get a decent gcard which will last for a year, then upgrade.. just my 2 cents :)
