A friend of mine have LG Cd-writer 52x/32x/52x, dont which model no.. The writer gets hot for just reading and coping the files onto his computer from the cd. When the cd is taken outz itz hot. Wheras when the cd is burned itz so damn hot, but all the cd he writes have no problem and r fine.

it does get hot, this is not a problem. even cdroms get hot when you read for a while.

Is his cabinet well ventilated? Are his cabinet temps reasonable ?

There may be a possibility that the CD drive is unable to dissipate its heat to the surrounding cabinet air , if the cabinet temps are hot as well.
